Paul is one of the most respected members of the PGA in Australia and played for over 10 years on tour locally and internationally at all levels. Paul worked his way up to be one of a small handful of Doctorate Level coaches of The Golfing Machine around the world has given him a great understanding of the mechanics of the swing. His years of Tour play have given him a way to express both the realities of the game and his own take of “how to do it and how get there”. He has been a regular contributor on iseekgolf for many years.

Lytham, I can see why now. After about 70 Screenings including a lot of pros and single figure markers, no one is anywhere near a swing. Quite surprising really.

He said easy questions zen…eg when u hit the ball into a strong breeze should u hit the ball high or low?

Serious note here, I’ve found that I strike the ball well but lack control, I seem to get good control with a more compact swing and abbreviated finish, including driver however the driver flys very low but straight when I do this, should I look for a more lofted driver, currently 10.5, go back to full swings and miss more fairways than I hit or try something else. I’ve noticed most pro’s don’t have the full gumby wrap around finish when hitting irons is this for more control? I want to the ball straighter as this wayward shite is making consistent scoring impossible. When it all comes together I can break 80 but when it doesn’t I’m shooting in the 90’s

I feel hitting is easier as mentally you have the feeling of a simple strong movement into the ball…even though this is not actually the case. Golf seems to me to be about perceptions….ever watched your swing on video after a long time and what you see is not what you think you feel that you do ????....that is how I see Hitting….powerful, easy to repeat but there is still a lot going on to get the job done…....

Zenstb, There is a programme in the human mind and body that has been there for 100,000 years. These days biomechanics call it a kinetic link. It is easy to do with an implement weighing 2 or 3 Kg like a hammer or an axe but with a 1/2 Kg golf club it has to be retrained measured precisely and trained some more. Faulty proprioception means we can’t trust what we think our bodies are doing.

I think I hear the sound of one hand crapping.

Deepdivot, Mate when you hit the 1st tee, what ever gets it in play willy nilly as best as hand eye coordination will allow must suffice. If you play for enough money week after week you would know that. There are years of development to deepen the skills so as you have more choice but for now it is chip, pitch or punch the ball in play. One pupil was 4 under after nine yesterday and did not know how to handle it. One thing is for sure he will learn. I always had 3 drivers 8, 10 and 12 degrees. I kept wearing out the 12. It is so easy and I could always hit a rolling hook into the wind with it. The 10 would not get off the ground unless I flipped it. The key is great contact even if it is shorter. Read The Talent Code or you may waste you life.

Two nice things about hitting are that you can change you mind on the downswing and turn the club more or less – a swing must be committed to; and you can waste all the strength you like on it. The swing has to be measured perfectly and always inside max.

Dart, how late in the hit can you change your mind and when is it too late in the hit to consciously change what will happen?

Dart, whilst I’m here I’d like to follow up another question Yes Hogan and I agree on hand action :) The non hand action is a bent left wrist as in Hogans Modern Fundamentals. Is the bent (raised?) left wrist advice in Five Lessons just Hogan’s way of advising to maintain the lag (as it is now often called) whilst releasing the club or is there more to it?

I think the bent left wrist at impact is very much like the light bulb that went off when Homer was trying to break small dandelions with a club….........Couldnt do it until all of a sudden he hit down and through with shaft lean and no flipping of the left wrist…....Thus began a Journey !

Dart mate. 2 months off, I know Zen will get a visit soon, but, where do I start back? I want to have a hit, but I want to not get back the lesser things I may have lost, but also get back the better things. Advice?
What is this golf game you talk of? |

Thanks for the tips mate, im going out today so I will keep it reigned in and see if I can play straight and hit a few GIR. Yesterday I cut about 4 irons into the trees which were disgusting and not the norm, 2 ended hard up against trees with no shot. after each one I thought if only I just punched it down the guts instead of the full swing gumby wrap around style. I might look at a 13 degree driver with a shorter shaft. Cheers bud.

Stink, Just go out and have fun at first. When you really get pissed off go and see Zen for you next DEEP PRACTICE. I won’t push you too hard ‘till you read “The Talent Code’”. TTC will instantly click into your life basic drive. Bliss. You will not waste a swing ever again.

Hermit, Anytime before contact but it is not conscious control. It is trained like a concert musician. Like Stink. He knows what I mean.

Thanks Dart, So when you said you can change your mind on the downswing, did you mean you can unconsciously change your mind on the downswing?
Truth is important even if it hurts sometimes |

Hermit, We got lost there. Bent is the small drawing of the wrong action beside supination Raised is what happens when you turn the grip and face of the club Anti – Clockwise before impact a lot. It is the Pros way of not slicing when they Lag a lot. With a Flat or Arched Left Wrist, like when you see what time it is, you can’t possibly slice and you have good power. The hook it MAY produce is countered by ripping your body, OPEN, HARDER. You may need some help to coach it in. When designing great golf swings, it is best to use the maximum alignments where possible to avoid happy mediums that are sloppy. You know Max the hooking features and balance that with slicing stuff or vice versa. Hogan tried to hook with a slicing grip. Trevino tried to slice it with a hooking grip; only because he failed at Hogans trick. You see if you stand square with a neutral grip it could go anywhere. You need to trap the alignments, just for peace of mind. If you play golf every day, thinking ain’t your strong point. I am not here to debate but only too pleased to shine some light on a dark subject. So exploring questions only. But, not why are you so bloody stupid, unless I am married to you.

Thanks Dart. Sounds like there is more to it. I like your comments about Hogan and Trevino. Exploring type questions are my favourite kind. Please let me know if you think I’m debating you. Life’s too short to waste time trying to convince people to change their minds.

Fun it is, as soon as I’m awake enough to get out there! The Talent Code will arrive on Friday. I like the sound of it from reviews and video. Can’t wait to go deep.

Hermit, React to an error, which you can’t with swinging.
