Scotty, I’m still giggling after seeing you on the ground halfway down 17 near Russ’ ball

Classic!!

Nice to meet you, hopefully we can get a round in at some stage :)

Incoming Golf Balls have the right of way!

It is a rare and privileged thing to meet a legend before his time.

His rate of reception and perception disarms me. He should be dead or at least crippled but he is really going somewhere.

His hunger to learn and teach ignites me.

We do putting as well, what I did is created a video I hope this will help you.
Putting Break downs

Just revisited this video Zen. Great one.

I have been taking the same approach for chipping. Is that OK? Would you have any concerns or warnings about trying to isolate the lower body with chipping?

Just to be clear for most chips, like most long putts, I know that I have a bit of hip movement, especially at the start of the down swing. But my intent with these shots is to keep the hips as still as possible, especially on the backswing.

What do you think?

Just watched this video. I like it. Thanks Zen as I just got lots of help with the stuff on backswing and follow through. Have you done anymore videos and are they in a spot we could access them?

Never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Weeties,
The putting video is great for chipping, the lower body always initiates the downswing for putting or chipping or full swing. We just can see it with the naked eye or video for putting.
What’s important is we super stiffen and stabilise at impact, if we do that , every thing has we have done right.

One thing I will pull you up on his you can’t keep the hips still by you physically trying to restrict them, this is the worse thing you could do. To stabilise the lower body you use the ground, by creating good ground connection this creates lower body stability and super stiffening.
This is where the PST comes into play and frequent testing you train your body to connect with the ground and apply it to your golf.

That’s a good point Zen. I am definitely not trying to actively hold my hips still so much as actively trying not to move them.

If that makes sense?

Makes sense, my advice would be use the ground and take your focus off the hips, the ground control the hips, you learn to control how you connect with the ground, you can control your lower body.

When I am practicing my best putts have the feeling that the only thing moving is my arms and the putter. As though somehow my whole body is completely stationary – even the shoulders. In a mirror I can see that my shoulders move – they have to – but there is no feeling of pressure or force in them.

At the feet it is the same; the pressure changes are so small that I don’t sense them.

I am talking about putts up to 8 feet, which is how long my putting mat is. When I chip there is more feeling of force although still very little on the back swing. As though the back swing is pure club hand and arm. Then there is a little push force in my feet on the down swing.

Weeties,
If you remember the core sep drill, you apply this to your putting and chipping, use your core contraction to accelerate your shoulders and arms.
To me it sounds like your creating an arm motion, put your mind in your core for a while and feel the contraction.
When putting you should feel all the force or it feels like weight on your left foot prior, at impact and even after. Hold your feeling and rate out of ten how much force you feel in your left foot same for chipping.
As I said in the video you use your core for putting. Same as core sep drill.
The arms do nothing they are there for the ride the core does all the work.

Hey Scotty, just curious if you have worked with any disc golf professionals yet, getting big in the US with over 3,000 courses and their own pro tour.

The X step is interesting, had some of my juniors golfers playing around with it hitting balls for kicks, they were amazed how far they could hit the ball using it. Must be some massive ground force being created.

Head Pro,
We haven’t tested disc golf, we do test normal discus of US athletic team.
The disc golf patterns looks similar to a Tennis back hand pattern, would be a no brainer for us to test and train. Funny enough same Kinetic Link pattern as a golf swing.

Hey Scott,

I’m from Adelaide and am very keen to find out more about introducing the zenolink training into practice to improve my golf game.

Cheers
