Has anybody had the opportunity to play The Cut at Port Bouvard, any feedback? http://www.hannaford.com.au... Looks like an interesting track from these pictures.

I spoke to a Trainee Pro who played it a couple of weeks ago with Jarrod Moseley. He wasn't too complimentary, claiming it must be a joke of a course if Jarrod has trouble hitting the tricky fairways there. He also claimed that it didn't look like all the pictures you see in ads. He's a pretty negative character anyway so take that with a grain of salt.

I saw the ad in one of the golf mag - looks like a course you
defn wouldn't want to play in the afternoon... how long's the drive from Perth CBD?
|
|
Just South of Mandurah. Right off the big bridge. 50 mins ish from South Perth. If you make it that far go for the day and drive down to Binningup and play there. Great 9 hole course.

I don't get it, this place looks better in photo's than Barnbougle and yet I have not heard any mention of it. I saw one pic in some mag last month and thought it looked great, and then these pics in the link above are just awesome..
Is it going to be a great course? or is it a poor design or
something...

I drove past it on my way down to Kennedy Bay in October last year. My impression is that it is average course built around and purely for the purpose of selling blocks of land. That area is basically all taken up with housing estates. Looks like you buy an old farm, put a couple of entrance walls up with the name (port something or something waters) plastered on it and then subdivide the block to sell to Perthites wanting to retire out of the city. I reckon you go past about 50 or 60 such "communities" between Perth and Margaret River. I would suggest that the picture we have all seen is of one hole only from a deeceving agle behind and across the tee. This appears to be the highlight of an otherwise mickey mouse course. But, I have not played it so these are only my passing impressions. Maybe I'm talking about nother course nearby? Perthites will know. Quick edit to the above. I just checked out the photo's from the original post on this thread. Either I'm thinking of another course or back nine is off in nice dunes and the other is the housing development OR I have got the wrong course. I notice that all the photos' are of holes on the back side. Like Spooky said, it looks spectacular but maybe the architecture is bad.

Is that a spelling mistake in the title perhaps? You could really be a country member there.
Actually it looks pretty bloody good from the photos - maybe a bit narrow for the winds they get there. 18 looks like it will be a monster.

Some of those photos reminded me of Cypress Point, National Old, Bandon Trails and New South Wales. Thats pretty good company!

Looks worthy of a try...I'll have to give it a go when next in Perth.

Those pics are so pure!! some of these ones show a bit of a different side.. http://www.hannaford.com.au...

Spooky, Photographs tell you a lot about the setting and bugger all about the golf course. As an example, if you look at photo's of the Ocean Course at the National it looks fantastic, yet playing it is very different. JJ

I managed to have nine holes this afternoon with a couple of people who played The Cut recently. The feedback was excellent, the fairways and greens were in very good condition given the new nature of the course. The rough was somewhere to be avoided at all costs and sounds very similar to the very penal Links at Kennedy Bay. Apparently the fairways are more generous than some of the photo's show. There was some criticism of a couple of blind tee shots but that was more than out weighed by a some great holes close to the coast. It's a course to be played prior to the sea breeze coming in and given that it's intended as a housing development carts are almost essential. I'll try and get down in the next few weeks for a first hand appraisal.

True but you have to admit these pics are a big step above any
pics on show of the ocean course etc. All this place is missing
is some marram grass, wich it looks like they need on the 18th to
stabilize the dunes instead of tree branches..

Who is the architect?

James Wilcher from Golf by Design.

heckler, any idea how much it is to play??? thinking of doing the Kennedy Bay/Secret Harbour double on one of the weekdays...but I can easily trade Secret Harbour for Port Bouvard...

Sorry Mau, not sure of the cost but think it's in the $60-70 range with cart. Had a very good rap yesterday from one my clubs most respected players who said he would play it in preference to The Links at Kennedy Bay, which gives me even more incentive to go and have a look for myself.

Mate played there last week. Feedback was the Ocean holes were good in the morning breeze. The housing lot holes not quite so interesting but overall a good place to play.
