I am heading up to Merimbula for 10 days in March. Does anyone know what sort of practice facilities they have up there and if they charge to use?

They have 27 holes – I don’t remember any practise facilities other than the putting green and maybe a chipping/pitching green. Just play there instead – its a nice enough coast course. Then go and play Tura Beach 5km up the road and realise how friendly Merimbula was!!!

The good ole Sapphire Coast is heaven for golfers. I’ve played Pambula/Merimbula , Tura Beach, Bega & Narooma. Make the effort to drive up to Narooma…....home of one of the most spectacular Par 3s going around!

Tura Beach is a very good course, I’d highly recommend it while you are there. That one only has a practice green though (as far as I can remember).

I wonder if they still call the spectaclar par 3 Hogan’s Hole? In reference to Paul Hogan doing an “anyhow av a Winfield” add. It might have been banned too :P It’s been 10 years since I’ve been to the Sapphire coast. Went there every year once to play golf, some great courses, and I was fortunate enough to always strike good weather:)

we used to go up to Merimbula every year for a few weeks, and I would spend my school holidays playing both Pambula / Merimbula and Tura Beach. Both were very good courses from recollection. It’s been 15 years since I’ve been there though. Looking at the tura beach website, I think it looks like they have reversed the nines at some stage. Worth playing. The folks just came back from up that way and said Pambula / merimbula looks like a great complex – They ate there at the clubhouse a few times and had nothing but rave reviews about the price & qualty of the food. They dont play golf whatsoever, but the old man thought the course looked in very good condition from what he could see. (he doesnt play, but has driven me & caddied for me all over the country – so he has an idea of what a course should look and feel like). Narooma is also very good if you plan on going up further – there was a course in Bega but never played it. I know a great (Rock) fishing spot if your interested. you wont leave empty handed.

I’m also making my way to the south coast (of NSW) shortly and will hopefully get around most of the good tracks. The current plan is six games in six days starting at Mollymook on the way down and then (in no particular order) Pam-Merimbula, Eden, Tura, Narooma and Bermagui. I reckon after that lot I won’t need to play a round for a while. What I’d like to know from those who’ve played there before; which are the easier walking courses and which are the harder? That way I can hopefully play them without getting too worn out. Mind you the way the rain keeps bucketing down this year I might need an ark to get there, only to find the courses washed away!

Mollymook hilltop can be a tough walk – thick kikiyu fairways and the struggle up the heartbreak hill on 17 is a nightmare – especially if you have had a bad day! Tura is probably worse – only played once, used a cart, and still thankful for that… Pambula/Merimbula is an easy walk, I don’t remember Narooma being too bad except for about the 10th up the hill? Haven’t played the others so can’t comment.

Pam-Merimbula, Bermagui and especially Eden are easy walking courses. Mollymook can be tough walk, however, since you start there…maybe you’ll have fresh legs…plenty of shade on a hot day:) Tura Beach is undulating and a tough walk. Narooma is a mixed bag with the back nine being a tough walk. The 10th is staight up hill and the long uphill walk across the road back to the par 3 17th is tiring. It’s been 10 years since I’ve been to the Sapphire coast, having played golf there many times before…I guess the layouts are still the same?

Merimbula has a practice fairway just off the club house. Nice course. Tura Beach is for billy goats. Once rated in top 100 – raters need to get out a bit more.
