Has anyone played either 9 or 18 holes at The Ridge golf course at Barden Ridge (near Menai) in Sydney.
Their website says they have just opened up their second 9 holes, so with their driving range, it could be a good place to visit.
I suppose their is one way to find out about it, and thats visit the place.

Played the new full 18 (new 10 holes) last week. Nice that it’s now a full 18. Condition was pretty good, just wish more pitch marks were repaired. Some of the new greens are already showing that they haven’t been repaired which was a shame.

Water now in play on a few more holes and the new par 5 risk and reward over water wasn’t bad. But still the most disappointing thing was that par 3’s aside and the 2nd it’s just driver off the tee with no need to play anything else.

Will play it again due to close location but I’m in no rush. Worth a hit if it’s not too busy, can get quite busy at weekends but then most courses are.

Played the full 18 a few times now.
Generally speaking, very good course.
Fairways and greens are undulating and really good to hit off and putt on.
No shade on the course at all, and all holes are exposed to the wind too.
Yes, very busy at the moment, but that will subside once the novelty wears off.
Best hole I think is the par 4 14th (Elevated tee, dog leg right over water) one off those risk reward shot where the further you hit right over the water the closer you get to the pin ( I think 210m + is required to avoid hitting the up slope on the other side and falling back into the drink.
Great practice facilities with driving range there, big practice putting area and sand bunker.
Definitely worth playing timbo61, that is for sure.

Yeah agree with comments above. Condition for a new course is great. Couldn’t fault the fairways, greens, green surrounds, etc. and especially the rough which often gets neglected on new courses.

Greens are massive and good speed. I would say the practice green is possibly the best in Sydney.. it is massive with even a bunker attached for practice.

Agree with being busy, took us over 5.5 hours teeing off at 9am one Sunday morning… biggest downfall for mine. I think part of it is due to the scattered “garden beds” / unkept gardens that can swallow a ball and people spending too long looking for them.
For mine they don;t need the garden beds and it would play better us an open inland links style course, especially with the wind that rips through there. The course would be much better to get rid of the garden beds and put in some waste style bunkers.

But I think the other part of the slowness is that as it has been a 9 hole track for a few years they were happy to let anyone come and play and so it tended to get the odd social hacker. When we were there there were many groups of guys just rocking around in singlets and boardies. Probably not what you would normally see at a top course thats for sure.

But yes definitely a good mix of long, short, strategic holes. Agree Par 3’s are prob nothing special, but definitly worth a hit that’s for sure.

Yeah agree that they neglect the pitch marks. They ruin what are otherwise great greens.

If you’re going to let so many social hackers on, then ground staff should spend more time repairing pitch marks. The hackers don’t know how to repair them, even if they did care.

Correct about garden beds too. Bunkers or water would be better, and speed up play no end.

Played 18 holes this morning in just 3.25 hours.
This course now finished is now in my top ten of courses.
I agree about the pitch marks but to me this is ok.
The older greens have been sanded but every course has to do this every now and then, so grin and bear it.
The new greens are very quick, make sure you have a putt on the practice green first if you come from a course like mine (George’s River) which has slow greens, so you can get used to them.

Fairways are in A1 condition and very well maintained.

All in all a great course, just awaiting a new clubhouse

Agree with comments above. Played today and greatly enjoyed it. At $32 it is a great value. Huge short game practice area, range. Fantastic addition to golfing in south. Better clubhouse is the last piece needed.

Yeah I played again on Easter Monday. We were first groups off and finished in 3hrs40mins. Enjoyed the course much much better.

They are getting a lot of players through there and so there were a lot of divot marks onteh greens, but still very good condition.

Read on their website they have delayed opening membership until 2014 as the council is assessing the best way for teh members club to run.

Personally I think they have been overwhelmed with the number of social players visiting and wondering whether they need to have members. I think after awhile once everyone has played it the numbers will settle down a little to a more regular few. that’s when membership will be needed. Just my random ramblings though. ;)

Our social group has been told we can’t re-book in for next year, so that gives you an idea of how busy the place is.

Golf tragic.

Repeat winner of the NCCSSC Booby Prize. Mmm, boobs.

Or maybe they do not want you back in a hurry.
Say No More.
