HUNTINGDALE - what a disappointment! (locked)

i played huntingdale yesterday in the legacy day. I must say how disappointed we were with the course condition at the moment. The greens were disgusting. The greens were pretty much the worst condition I have putted on since playing back on the old spring park public track. The sand in the bunkers were grossly inconsistent and very scrappy areas just off the fairway in the rough. Granted the fairway condition was good, like most courses in melbourne this time of the year. I’d also suggest that they replace that rotting back deck, before someone falls through it and lodges a lawsuit. Pretty bad. All in all very dis-appointing… speaking to at least 8-10 others after the round they were of the same view. for what “some people” hang on the the “masters” legacy, you got to be kidding yourself…. It would be an embarrassment to hold a tourney there if yesterday is anything to go by.

It’s an ordinary track at the best of times!

It’s like meeting your hero as a kid and finding out he’s a cock faced wanker…. Leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

Is hack a cock faced wanker? He was my hero :(
What is this golf game you talk of? |
|

Hack As far as the back deck going I suspect it won’t be replaced as they are about to embark on building a new clubhouse.
Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game! |

It’s all coming down soon! Brand new one being built,

I won’t bother responding to the OP as he is entitled to his own opinion, no matter how wrong it is. I will respond to The Yub’s post by saying that you are only embarrassing yourself with comments like that.

hackpro, is Huntingdale a better course than Keysborough?
|
|
Hackproyou obviously hit in the trees all day off the tee and put it into the bunkers as well. Bunkers are a hazard and the day after a hot day you should be able to excuse the greens a little

Didnt miss alot of fairways thanks chipshot, i am not one to say one course it better than the other, as different courses appeal to different players and people. In my 25 or so years of golfing all over the world i have played so many tracks all at different levels and conditions, they all have their little pros and cons…. thanks for the comment though. :)

also i’d like to clarify that this opinion was pretty consistent with at least our group and 2 other groups that we spoke to. All members from different melbourne based courses. So it was not only my opinion, we cant all be wrong. sorry if I offended you huntingdale chaps, but the truth is right there to be seen. If you recon that its in good nik atm, thats laughable. Lucky i was paying for charity, otherwise I would have been spewing….

mate, one of the bunkers 3 of us sunk almost past our ankles in the sand. the next was like concrete…. there is no denying or excusing that. Accept it and move on chap. excusing the green, your kidding yourself, it was hard to tell what was fairway and what was green? putts bounced with the trajectory of 5 irons and needed the clubhead speed of a driver. I have been to plenty of courses including the sandbelt during and around hot weather, none were playing like that.

yeah I saw them doing works down there, thank god for that, was pretty run down out the back there….. the front gates and entry walls had signs of graffiti and the like which is dis-appopinting and looks pretty ugly. hopefully the new clubhouse will add a bit of spark the place….. best of luck to them I say and hopefully they can work towards getting their course to the reputation that it still grimly and barely hangs onto….. as i said its all our opinion, and no offence intended as I’m sure the members are fantastic, lovely people….. and they deserve a good course to play on like us members elsewhere. cheers and all the best

So I guess we won’t be seeing Hack back at Huntingdale. That’s a shame!

Just about all courses even during pro tournaments have the occasional concrete bunker.

Sounds like yet another trunk slammer Hackpro. Did you at least break 90?

Huntingdale is by no means the best course in Victoria but it is a still a club most would be happy to play at. It’s ranking in best courses in Australia was certainly pumped up by the media after the Aussie Masters tournaments. The widening of playing corridors certainly helped but recent changes have made the course slightly incoherent in places. It still sits comfortably in the top 50 courses in Australia but no where near the best.
Play it as it lies, get on with it, its not life or death, its just a game! |

It’s nice to hear an HONEST appraisal hackpro. Say it like it is for sure.

I’ll post some photos next Saturday so everyone can see just how “disgusting” the greens really are.
