Hi all, I am staying up at Lake Macquarie over the Australia Day long weekend and was planning to play at Belmont but then discovered they are hosting the Lake Macquarie Amateur. Any suggestions for alternatives? I am particularly interested in courses with an open comp on Sunday morning. Cheers, Michael

Cams Warf. You will be better of getting down to the Central Coast and playing one of the belters down there.

Hi RobNewy – any suggestions? Do you mean up to the Central Coast?

Central Coast is about 30 or so minutes south of were you are staying. Belmont is about 15 mins north. Try Magenta Shores. Tough track from what i hear. Its private but you may be lucky? Or Kooindah Waters. Again, sposed to be a very good course. Not to sure of any others.

Hi Michael As a few of the boys have said, you have the chance to play the central coast because it’s about the same distance. In Newcastle you can play Charlestown which I prefer over Belmont anyway, can be a bit hard on the legs if walking. Then there is Waratah golf club in Argenton, another good members club, I reckon about 30 minute drive for you. Charlestown would be about 15 minutes. Let me know if you have any more questions
It’s only the Internet guys. This is NOT real life…. |

Wyong lightly sanded the greens last Tuesday and they are a bit slow at present , Sunday comp early hit off . Make sure you get a cart at Charlestown if it’s a hot day as it is a tough walking course. Morisset is about 15 minutes away and not a bad members course , Sunday comp starts late morning
Give me a man with big hands big feet and no brains and I will make a golfer out of him . Quote, Walter Hagen. |

I would give Charlestown a miss at the moment I heard that some hoons ripped up 6 of the greens just recently. Waratah is quite good, down on the central coast as has been suggested Kooindah waters or wyong, Shelley Beach there are quite a few around the area depening on how far you want to travel. Pity the Lake Macquarie Amateurs is on as Belmont is a good track.

Thanks for the advice all. Ended up playing Kooinda Waters and really enjoyed it. Booked as a single and was scheduled to play in the competition but the other 2 players in my group didn’t turn up so was forced to play alone off the 10th. Shot 4 under my handicap (20) which could have been better given I was even off the stick after 4 holes. I really enjoyed the course and didn’t find the water that much of a problem as a lot of the water hazards were bone dry. Will definitely try to play there again.

What you should be doing is preparing the Royal Wing for my visit in October.

If that wing is normally reserved for the wallet, I’d be more concerned about Moths than Rats :P
