Best Public Holes in Suburban Melbourne

Hi Guys, Bit of an odd topic, but would love to hear anyone’s thoughts on any great (or let’s be realistic “better”) holes in Melbourne’s suburban (council) golf courses. I guess I’m looking for holes which you might play in isolation and think to yourself “That hole in isolation wouldn’t be out of place at a private and/or highly ranked course”. Must admit, I’m struggling to have anything come to mind?

Albert Park 15th par 3 /191 meters rated 2nd hardest.

The 16th at Yarrambat from the back tees. 180m downhill, with a carry required of 160m to clear the dam that is directly in front of the green.
Shot more than 36 points in an OOM day….seriously. |

18th at Waterford valley. It’s a doozey!!

Par 3 8th at Yarra Bend. Downhill about 160ish, dense scrub in front of tee boxes and sharp drop off right hand side of green, any fade off the green will end up with a minimum of two shots to get back on the green.

10th at growling frog. Gotta love an elevated tee shot. Bunkered on the inside of the dog leg and outside of the green. All about risk vs reward.

Great hole. Narrow green the size of a postage stamp makes it really really tricky!

16th @ Freeway. Par three. I think its about 140m. Over a creek about 70m from the tee to a big two tiered green sloping back to front, with the front of the green feeding back (pretty harshly) onto a small bit of fairway. Big trap front right of the green and plenty of crap all around the green Green is kind of in a natural amphitheatre, particularly to the left, where a slightly wayward shot could feed back into a good position. A decent tee shot can leave you with a makeable chance to for bird or par but If you’re not on the green off the tee, you’ll need to be a pretty good scrambler to make par.

TDM – I think the amazing part about this one is that it was unused until they started the re-build of the 14th hole a couple of years back. It’s the best par 3 on the course by the length of the straight.

Agree with you 100%. For me its one of the best holes on the course and easily the best par 3, as you mentioned. I hope they leave it in play permanently once all the works are done (if they’re not already. I haven’t played there in a while)

I think Flinders = suburban is pushing it a bit. We could include more courses in the Peninsula if so!

+1 I’m a big fan of the Par 3 4th at Cheltenham

15th at Sandringham, great shortish par 3. 12th at Growling Frog, super bunkerless par 3 with a front to back tiered green. 1st and 10th at Brighton are pretty neat, shots into both greens offer some good questions. 2 is also good fun short 4. 18th at WV is atrocious.
