Lefti is dead right about the second at the Glades, my all time favourite golf hole and I’m pretty sure it will get in as one of the four super hardies

Baz …...... I reckon ….......... Just pick any old 8 holes from The Glades ….......... and then any old 8 holes from Hope Island, slap em all together to form the 16 middle holes of your “composite course” .............. and then just sandwich them at both ends ........with Robina Woods 1st and 18th holes. Job done ….. time for a beer.

What about the 18th at Palm Meadows it would have to make it on any list of GC holes?

Good Call HJF Will be interesting to see if anyone votes for the par 3 17th at Robina. I can never work out if it’s a good quality golf hole, or, if I like because we normally play it in a comp with 60-70 other people watching and it makes for good theatre

I think Robina 17 is an exciting hole but a bit too severe for anyone getting to the back edge or beyond. Make it tough, yes, but not unfair.

If you are on opposite side of the pin across the big hump in the green it’s almost a 3-putt certainty and i won’t even mention the concrete based right side deep bunker that is often impossible to get a 64degree lob wedge under to get out, many other worthy par three holes on the coast like 7th at colonial 6th hope island before we look at the stronger 3’s.

Beerman, Back on topic, Baz, do you want to let us know what sort of hole the 3rd is? as the 17th at the glades seems to be the winner for our 2nd hole

Overall course condition is rather good, lot of tree trimmimg, rough thinning, new signage etc all for the better with Clive opening his wallet, main issue is probably sand issues with white powder like in some and the 17th a brownish gritty style of sand with no depth in bottom of collection area of the bunker thus a wide open lob wedge {to get height out of bunker} just skids ball into bunker face etc and now often play backwards out to fairway rather than dumping another shot or two in the sandless pit. Interesting to note that sand at “Colonial” rather even all through the bunkers there having had a game there two weeks back.Even Palm Meadows sand {the brown stuff} is even and playable compared to Robina.

So Baz what type of hole will the 3rd be? maybe a strong par 4. For a strong par 4 I would suggest the 12th at Lakelands, The hole is about 390m for the back tees with a wide landing zone but catching the fairway bunkers left or wide right will force a lay up of most. The second is played into a good sized green with water right and a bunker left. As normal with a Nickalus design it suits a high fade second but don’t cut it to much as the water is only just of the edge of the green. the hole is ranked number 3 on the card and if the pin as on the back right then middle of the green is a good result.

Sorry, been away for a week, but distractions over and back to work.

GPJ I think your probably right and I suspect we will end up pretty much with what you suggest. Maybe one or two from other courses will creep in like 18 at Palm Meadows.

Ok a reachable par 5 with some good risk/reward, I suggest the 8th at Colonial, a good lenth par 5 (about 485 from the back) with water all down the right side and bunkers left of the landing zone.

8th at Colonial is a great hole

Surely nothing from Colonial could make a list of top 18 holes on the Gold Coast!!! They ruined a beautiful swamp to make that place, the swamp was a better use of the land. How about the 18th at Robina Woods? Might be a fraction long though to be reachable in two.

Harsh call Buggera the Colonial has some good holes. I know the over use of water hazards makes it tough and almost stupid when the fairways camber towards the water so good drive get punished but the good holes make it a course worth playing.
|
|
Buggera, I understand where you are coming from but it all honesty the reachable par 5’s at the better (ish) courses on the gold coast are not exactly awe inspiring (Glades, Hope, Royal Pines, Lakelands, etc are all pretty limp) so 8th at Colonial gets my vote.. Even though I’ve only had a pop at it in two once, and walked off with a 7

Looking to book a golf trip in March and thinking about booking SC Palms, SC Pines and Brookwater. Has anyone played these recently and can give an update on their condition?
