Noted a new course being built at Beveridge called Mandalay. Any updates, public or private – a Thomson Perrett design.

Public Pay for Play residential development

Developer is metricon, don’t hold your breathe on this course. It is designed by Peter Thompson but from what i have heard ( work in the industry) this will be a farily standard resort style course. Very odd place to have a new course though between Growling Frog and Hidden Valley? But yeah, guess we wont know till it comes up.

How is the progress on this development proceeding?

By all accounts at a snails pace. Done just enough in the right spots to make the project appear further along than it really is. The main game is flogging the real estate.

Mate who works in the course building industry told me the other day that they have hit more rock than ever known. Had a $1m rock clause written into the contract and they have already spent $10m. They have now set up a recycle plant on the site to get some coin back.

read in today’s paper that they reckon it should be opened before end of year. Anyone been out that way?

The signage states that it is opening in 2013. The tees, fairways, roughs and greens are well grassed. It will be a long walk between many greens and tees and residential streets will also need to be crossed during the round. The course is very exposed to wind, has many deep bunkers and appears to be quite challenging. It looks best suited to proficient golfers. Many fairways will be bordered by housing.

I’m stuffed then.

Any updates on this course? Is it open for play yet? Some photos on the Estate website make it look like it might be, but I can’t see any contact details for a club house…

It is open I believe (9holes) only 3 days a week and possibly only for members. Sounds like housing not selling quickly and development slowed way down.

Can’t find a phone number for the pro-shop, just the estate sales office. And I don’t want to talk to them.

sounds like it is worth the drive. You can play for nothing 4 days a week :)
