Yeah I’m going to push them on that, mainly because Melville is $990 and they usually do it for $0 at some point during the year.

Not really comprable courses, but Melville have good facilities and some plans to make some big changes to the course.

Hey Tiger,

Any idea on when Melville would be looking at waiving nom fee?

Cheers

Usually Oct/Nov because subs are due around Dec there I think.

Finally banned. Sweet Release.

Thanks Yoss.

I could be completely wrong about that btw!

I think last time was actually around March or April actually, that’s what I’m waiting on. Certainly didn’t do it in Oct/Nov just gone anyway

bah! Melville ….. why would ya!

Gosnells Golf Club, Perth.

Well for anyone who lives in or around Freo, it’s RFGC or Melville unless you like driving 30 to 40 mins to your club. One is pretty damned expensive but a quality course, and the other is reasonably priced for the standard of course.

Is that Gosnells member snobbery coming out? I have heard bad things.

I think that’s the first time I’ve seen Gosnells and snobbery used in the same sentence

‘cos you live right next door ?

I just wish they would put something out there like gosnells, kwinana, wanneroo, hartfield, lakelands etc – the fifo discount on subs, with a waived/minimal nom fee.
They would gain a few more members that way – members that would utilise the course AND the facilities.
Members that they currently have no chance of adding due to the other options available within 15-20 min drive.

when you add in the levies at melville, gosnells is cheaper

and i would get sick of the constant “course renovations” that have been going on for longer than i have been playing golf

but hey each to their own, so long as the beer is cold and the company is good ;)

like Tiger, i don’t think gosnells and snobbery fit in the same sentence. We reserve that right for RF and RP members :P

Hey….thats not nice.

Although i must agree, i still pause a little every time i tell someone that i have signed up as a member of a “royal” club. However, i must say, RF doesnt have the ” pompus feel” that i have experienced at places like royal melbourne.

Like everything quintessitially freo, its a working man’s version :-).

haha nice comeback bone.

I was going to say just RP members but couldn’t resist throwing out the line for ya. Have to admit the only time i have played there it didn’t have that “pompus feel” about it either

i know what ya mean with the pause too, was hanging out with my old footy mates a couple of weeks back and when asked paused a little b4 telling them that i was now a member at a private golf club. The crap that got thrown my way was evidence to the pause and stereotype of golf club members :(

fairways were cored week before last, coming back nicely but may be best to give it one more week

Coring in the middle of summer ey, members must love that.

RF have started scarifying fairways, they seem to be doing it to two per week.

They have also closed the par 3 17th for green reshaping works, in the interim, the short game practice area has been converted to a 105m par 3.

Works are also planned to re shape the green on the 400m par4 16th. Not sure when that will occur

now that i think about it, it was only the back nine.

We got a new head greenkeeper start in December, he has been going hell for leather at it. Probably will end up good but paying for it a bit at the moment

Gosnells Golf Club, Perth.

Coring and Scarifying in Summer actually causes the least disruption to members as the recovery rate on the grass is quicker.

Also you will find most of the larger events at Private Golf Clubs occur between March and October…

Disappointing to hear that RF is changing the 17th green, was always a great hole and never a certain 3 even when hitting the green,

How is KGC going? worth the trip?

Gosnells Golf Club, Perth.

Kalgoorlie is looking great, definitly worth the trip to play what is one of the more unique courses in WA if not Oz. If you can tie in your trip with one of the open weekends the Goldfields Golf Club have, the prizes for the weekend are usually worth 10k plus, No shortage of sponsors wanting to tip in…

wow, checked out the website and looks like one hell of a course! 569m par 5 15th looks like a brute, plus some long par 3’s. Is it pretty flat or is there some up and downs on the course as well.

When are the open weekends? i’m in, road trip :)

Gosnells Golf Club, Perth.
