i have just recently started to look for a golf course to join in the Perth district. I am looking for a well priced golf club that is reasonable priced that i am able to become a member of. i live in Marmion so i am looking for a course not to far away from me.

Lakelands Country Club, just off Gnangara Road – we have quite a few members that live out your way.

We have mid week, 6 day or full memberships as the main memberships.

There is also a trial membership for $440 for 3 months that comes off your joining fee if you join at the end of the trial period.

The website is at www.lakelandscc.com.au

You are quick lucidair, you get a referral commission or something?

Just promoting a good course Adlo….......

I found an old post on here once that described it as a highly underrated course. Think there may be some truth there..

I am still waiting for a look around…

Nothing wrong with a bit of pride for your home track!

Adlo, if you want a round there, just let me know and I will tee it up. I am out there most sundays (in the afternoons). I am already booked this sunday though as it is our opening day but after that is clear.

OK, do you head out any other days?

A Sunday game for me might be a while off.

Not very often. I am a 6 day member so cant play on saturdays.

I could arrange for a day of work if a group of ISGers want to play sometime. A monday, tuesday or thurs afternoon would be the best for that.

Nah thats cool, we’ll head out on a Sunday some time. No rush.

Marmion is only about 3 minutes drive from Lake Karrinyup?

It it possible to join if you want to put in the work.

Otherwise you might want to consider the 25 min drive in land to WA or Mt Lawley, both nice tracks

Aggreed northerner. Personally I find Lakelands boring. Id rather join seaview or cottesloe if you cant get LK, WAGC or Mt Lawley

I am a member at Lakelands & would recommend you have a try before dismissing it. I don’t find it any more boring than playing any course often.
But I am off 25 so swinging a club I find the challenge not so much the course :-))

a question of money of course – LK may be the most convenient for you but it is also the most expensive by quite a wide margin.

But what else are you giong to do with teh stuff, spend it on food or something?

Karrinyup, WAGC and Mt Lawley may well have waiting lists to join. You shouldnt have that problem at Lakelands.

Cottesloe and Seaview are quite hilly I believe.

I guess the best thing is to try the courses and also check out if they have waiting lists.

Waiting lists at Mt Lawley and WA, but not as long as they were, probably a year or so I guess. Cottesloe does have a long wait I think of maybe a couple of years

Karrinyup does not operate a waiting list as such – if you can get 7 referees and pass the interview you get straight in, but that process normally takes months and can be a little daunting.

Well I guess it is personal preferences but I have been a member of LCC for over 15 yrs and never find it boring.

Hi Northerner,
how does one get to know enough referees at LKCC? Is there any provision for a temporary membership?

Control is doing the shortest possible stroke to make the shot.

Lakelands is a good tester. I have always found the members out there to be a great bunch of people to chase a ball with.

LK did have a facility to take up a provisional temporary membership in order to give members the chance to find the 7 referees, but I understand this has now been closed to Perth residents, but may still be open to those who are new in town.

Otherwise you just have to work at it – you need to find a sponsor who is a member of senior standing and sit down with him to work out a plan of how to meet the rest. The first thing your sponsor would do is give you the membership book to look thru to see if you can find any others you know. I did this and after looking thru the book found 3 others i knew, and then with a few games and some beers found the rest over a few months. Not hard, you just have to make the effort.
The misconception with these clubs is that you have to be invited – rubbish, you have to ask.

When I lived in Perth I joined Lakelands as it was

1. In my price range
2. Great bunch of blokes to play with (tried other courses of similiar price and was by far the friendliest.)
3. NO KIKUYU (played the other courses of similar price and it was the ONLY one with pure couch fairways.)

Some of the other courses mentioned here are pricy to gain entry too, and the ones around the same price bracket are in my opinion no better (most worse) than Lakelands.

Seaview-whilst not a bad course-only 9 holes and quirky. Best part of it is watching the ‘locals’ wander down to the beach from the bus stop if you catch my drift…....

Northerner,
Any possibility of having a hit with you some time? I live near by and it would be very convenient for me if I was able to get in. I do know a few members but need to get to know a few more.

he could always join the .. miner golf club.. ay jack !!!
get to play 5 courses 5 days a week ..in a comp if you choose to..
real cheap rates !!! .. and best of all .. good company ; ))

A bit tricky to have a hit, I live in London and only get home every few months. So dont ask me what my average cost per round is.

If you are coming back anytime soon, could you please email me on john at tieline dot com ? Would like to catch up with you if possible.

If you live in the area, your wife and kids could join tomorrow – they are very keen to foster good relationships with the local communitty rather than being seen as an enclave for Dalkeith Doctors. You could then sneak in the back door that way.
