Coffs Harbour vs Sawtell

I’m heading down to Coffs Harbour over Australia Day weekend with the family and a couple of mates. Primarily we are going to have a hit at Bonville which I have wanted to do for years but we are also looking for a place to have a hit (hopefully in a comp) on the saturday. Options are either Coffs or Sawtell. I’ve read through the course reveiws but the results wern’t conclusive.

Does anyone with experience on the courses have a recommendation as to which one to play in addition to Bonville? (I play off 9 and mate plays off 15)

Cheers

coffs harbour first, nambucca heads second, sawtell third

coffs has 27 holes and one of the 9s ( i think its 1-9) is a good deal better than the other two, but still a better course. Nambucca isn’t very long as its on an island and their space is limited, but the greens there are pure and the members are great

Coffs wins easy….27 holes always in good condition although sawtell is still a nice track.

Definitely Coffs.

Play at Coffs but stay in Sawtell.

Play at Coffs but stay in Sawtell.

2nd that, especially this time of year..

I grew up playing at Coffs, and my Dad is still a member there. I’ve also played a lot of golf at Sawtell.

Coffs is the better test of golf, but Sawtell – a shortish course – still tests your game, though you might find yourself hitting short clubs into a lot of par 4s.

Coffs are in the process of changing around a few things on the front nine (making 5 a par 4 and turning 2 into a par 5 as far as I know), but it should be in good nick, and the greens can get fast. Tough in the wind….

Sawtell’s a pretty friendly crowd. I’ve always enjoyed drinking a pint or two in the clubhouse – after the round of course.

Heading down to Coffs in about 3 weeks to play Bonville, looking to play either Coffs or Sawtell (or both if they’re worth it!).

Can anyone give me an update on these courses or any recommendations?

Both Tracks are in good condition but Coffs is a far better course that Sawty. As mentioned in the thread earlier, get a game at Nambucca if you can, its only 30 minutes south of Coffs and its a cracker.

I once met a nice bird in the spa at the Boambee By Resort…..

Bellingen also has a course but is not great, the town is worth a look and a side trip. Amazing part of the world.

In order…

Play Sawtell, then Coffs, then Big (Bonville) – definitely won’t be disappointed!

For an easy, casual round in your t-shirt and thongs, have a stroll around Bellingen followed by a bevvie or two from the bar. A lovely, small town, country track!
