List your home course and the three reasons for supporting it

Mine is Penrith
1 its close to home which is convenient for practice
2 its cheap at under $900 a year
3 its long and reasonably tough so it keeps my interest

Fox Hills Golf Club (In Prospect)

1. Cheap as chips (At $430 for an annual student 7 day memebership).
2. Members and pro shop staff are very friendly.
3. Tight fairways and small greens have really promoted consistency and straightness in my game :P

I know its not what you asked, but:

A negative is that its only a par 68 at the moment :( will be a par 69 when the new hole is completed and another negative is its really crammed so I have had soo many golf ball related near death experiences out there.

Mr Consistency found his swing.

Its not a bad idea to include the negatives.

My course prob has too many members so its hard to get in the comp at short notice and they seem to let to many teenagers in megadeth shirts play in the afternoon. They dont respect the course or the other players.

Cleverly Disguised As A Responsible Adult

1. Top 15 course in Australia. 2. Family-orientated club and very friendly, very few wankers and definitely no bogans (& no Megadeth tshirts). 3. I always have fun, the members love their golf and having a drink, fine sense of tradition, I have made many good friends there, etc etc.

Negatives – ummm …... its 45 mins from home. Would love it to be 10 mins closer.

Home Course is Oatlands, North Parramatta.

No.1 – Friendly staff and people.
No.2 – Always improving course with constant renos.
No.3 – Cheap Drinks and good food.

Negatives

No.1 – Full Course is never in play due to constant renos.
No.2 – Little shit arse juniors think there gonna be a pro.
No.3 – Greens are inconsistent. Somtimes quick, sometimes slow.

Current Handicap: 4.0
Year Goal: 2.0

My course is: Kooralbyn Resort Golf Club

Pro’s
1) One of the best layout’s I have played on, tough course, every hole provides a challenge.
2) Close to home.
3) The new management are all golfers so they understand that the golf course is the backbone of the resort and the town, so major improvements have been made and there are still more to come.

Negatives
1) Improvements mean disruptions to the Golf Course.
2) There are alot of snakes in and around the course which can be a bit unnerving.
3) Fairways need slight improvement in order to get them perfect.
3)

East Geelong
Positive

1. Great club atmosphere, course is mainly run by volunteers and there is a real club spirit.
2. Location, it is inside 30min from home, used to be inside 15min but bought a new house.
3. Price. Good value for money.

Negative
1. Only 9 holes.
2. Practice facilities are pretty poor.
3. Conditioning can be a bit iffy with regards to aprons around greens and bunkers (although the greens themselves are awesome)

If I had the cash and could get there during the week I would look at heading down the coast to 13th beach, but the price can’t be justified when I can only get there once a week.

down and out…did ya get that?

Keysborough, relatively new member.

Good: 1. Great course, by my standards anyway.
2. Challenging enough.
3. Whenever you find a lost ball, its always premium haha.

Bad: 1. Seems like a bit of a “snobby” atmosphere, but that again im a teenager with piercings so i guess that is to be expected.
2. Hardcore dresscode that im not used to…. i can understand polos and slacks but “tailored shorts” give me a break man.
3. Too many people with wikid equipment that have no idea how to use it.

Woorayl Golf Club

Good Points

Good, cheap, cold beer
Friendly welcoming atmosphere
Curator who takes obvious pride in the course presentation
Cheap full membership, $260
Proud pennant history
Less than 2 kms from home

Bad points

It would be nice to have 18 holes rather than 9

Try Woorayl Golf Club - Leongatha, Victoria, Australia.
You won't be dissapointed.

Bunbury Golf Club

Positive
1, Challenging yet relaxed layout, (front 9 is more frustrating for me than the back 9)

2, Friendly staff and members and a dress code so also no megadeath.

3, 3 minute drive from home, the Sanctuary Golf Resort is only 1 minute but it is always in shyte condition.

Negative
1, They only sell Pepsi and anything mixed with Pepsi tastes like crap,

2, The retic runs at 0600 so you sometimes have to duck and weave.

Generally an excellent club, you people from Perth should come down and have a look

National Golf Club

Positive
1. 3 Great courses all rated in top 50 in Oz.

2. Good practise facilty with free range balls

3. Superb Club house and great admin staff to assist you.

Negative

1. Hard to find balls in the rough, but that will teach me to hit more fairways.

2. 30 minutes from home and 1 hour from work

3. Little protection from the weather, especially the wind.

You joined National ?

SJGC

Whats wrong with the National. After not getting a look in at Peninsula It was clearly the next best option fro me.

I am just starting out by leasing a share to begin with. But so far I’m really enjoying it down there ?
Is there something you know about the place that i’m not seeig thus far ??

MJT I cant imagine a better place to be a member.
Do they run three individual comps? Can you choose which course to play whether it be weekday or weekend?
Do they close one course to the members on the weekend to cater for social golfers?

Why did you not get a look in at Peninsula?

Would love to hear more about your experiences there.

Sorry about all the questions im just a curious SOB

MJT – don’t get touchy. I didn’t say anything was wrong with the National.
I just remember you pursuing membership at Peninsula in another thread.
Nothing wrong with membership at National – enjoy your time there.

SJGC,
I’m not touchy, but I read your question about joining National as maybe there was some problems there, or it is not a good fit for new members.

Socks,
I’ve only been there for a short while, but members can play on any course any day. Courses are rotated for members guests daily with 1 course nominated as members only.
There are several comps 4 times a week, on each course. I have not played in any yet so I don’t know the final workings of these yet, but hopefully will soon.

Its great having three courses to choose. Just this Saturday, I rang up at 6.45 to check for a tee slot and got in at 8.00am.

While my preference would have been to join Peninsula as it is closer to home and between home and work, the joining process is difficult if you do not know a member. From initial discussions with the club I was lead to believe they have a committee for new members to join on a temporary basis and to then get to know members who can nominate you for full membership.
But on following up enquiries I was basically told if you don’t know members tough titties, sorry but we can’t help in this regard.
This basically threw me off. Reading other posts I think there may be a waiting period of 6 months, which would be OK if the office informed you of this. Who knows maybe in a few months time they will call me to say my time is due, we will now look at your application.

All I can say is that from my first call to the National, they have been more than helpful with the full joining process and they actually called me back when they said they would, unlike a lot of other coures who I talked to in the research for membership.

MJT, how much did you pay for your share at the National?

Southern (Vic)

1) 1 min from home
2) Best social environment of any club in the country….therefore the jealous types call it a place full of bogans because their snobby places frown upon people having a nice drink
3) Top 100 course according to 2006 AGD and in ripper condition most of the time
3a) Can always get a game on Saturday
3b) New cluhouse rocks
3c) No wait list to join when i started and also negotiated a half price joining fee

I only post here when the other site gets quiet...

Milhouse,
The shares at nearly 20K are a bit too steep for me at the moment, so I did not buy one, just leased one of a member not using theirs. I’m just paying the annual subs ($2700) which are very similar to all other private clubs, but I feel great value as I have 3 courses to choose to play.

MJT sounds like your onto a good thing.
I reckon your in for a fantastic golfing summer.

Trentham Golf Club

Best things:
1. It’s cheap and close to where I live.
2. Some really nice holes and very picturesque.
3. Great club spirit and extremely well kept.

Worst things:
1. Some trees badly need pruning, some at ground level!
2. The Index 1 hole is just a straight fairway with a green at the end.
3. The clubhouse is too small.

Would you recommend it Tom? I was thinking of joining that course… tossing up between about 4 courses at the moment… the only reason i havent looked further into that one is its a fair distance from my house.

Eastwood Golf Club ,Kilsyth ,Victoria.

1 Great clay belt course with great fairways,

2 Mebers are great,

3 Close to home.

The Clay Belt !! A new term I’ve not heard before. That’s hilarious. Quick, copyright it.

Penrith Golf Club, NSW

1 Par 72 6333m Championship Layout with Pristine Couch Fairways

2 No water problems, club has water direct from Nepean River

3 Absolute best value for money ($890 year)

Negatives

1 Club needs more money for further course improvements

2 Penrith still seems to be too far from Sydney

3 Not enough motorised carts (25)
