Definitely one of the better public access courses out that side of town.

Played there today and was impressed with the conditions. Considering the current water restrictions in Melbourne. The greens were quick but not unplayable. My only gripe was the amount of bunkers that had been filled in from the original design\release phase. If they had all the bunkers which was supposed to be the course would be a lot higher in the annual Public course ratings.

Great course that has been let go. Appallingly maintained. The fairways are an absolute joke and the greens are rarely in the condition they should be in.

And what they did to the 18th is a disgrace.

It is/or was possibly the best public course within 50kms of the city. There are only a few holes where the bunkers that should have been put in were never done, but the rest do not need them.

Hey Sloth, if those bunkers were there then you might have had a better score, you wouldn't of been in the trees as much as you did tongue.gif

I agree with VJ, it could be more better maintained, I have seen greener courses in the area, but with what they have, I was quite surprised how well the greens were running and how much grass cover on the fairways, even though it was brown, dead looking. But the fairways were in much better shape then Albert Park which I played earlier in the week, I played with an American friend who was visiting and he couldn't believe how hard the fairways were.

Indication of how the course at Yarrambat is holding up, greens were running reasonably true and some of the fairways still had some green tinge

VJStinks - what do you expect them to do with no water? Do the fairways play worse because they're dry? I doubt it. Maybe divots are taking longer to repair but if they're filled, it isn't an issue. I was there not long ago, and the course was playing well.

Maybe this is was happened at Melton TT ? smile.gif

I must admit happy.gif , for some holes it was great that they were dry, I loved the run on the fairways from my shots off the tee as they were traveling longer than I normally hit it, except for the 4th and 11th where the slope is just too great that the ball runs off into the rough.
The club is doing well in maintaining the course considering the conditions, sometimes I think they can do better, like adding the original Cashy bunkers back into the design. Some of the fairways were brown but still had good grass cover, no dust flying every time you play a shot off the fairway.
But again an enjoyable course and a great day playing with 'The Sloth', and I would definitely go back there.

My main gripe with Yarrambat is not necessarily the condition now, but over the last 10 years.
The redid all the fairways and I have not once seen them in the pristine condition they were originally in.
Not having played it for 5 years but having done so twice in the last 3 months I was a bit disappointed to see it has not gotten better.

They have a great course out there that is cheaply maintained and has only gone backwards since it opened.

The course merely plays okay. Maybe I have become a little elitist with playing well groomed courses for that last 10 years, but I did not get many good lies on the fairway. Even the greener fairways are very patchy and light on.

I played it once about 5 years ago and thought it was very ordinary. Conditions aside.

A poor man's Pambula-Merimbula IMO.

I played Yarrambat 8 years ago – remember it as a nice, testing layout. Anyone played it recently?

'Follow-Through: The part of the swing that takes place after the ball has been hit, but before the club has been thrown.'

I played there few years ago, course was really good but the efn grumpy old dog in the pro shop insured that i would never go back.

"Gotta put dole forms in"

i’ve played this course a few times recently (its fairly local for me). i still don’t mind the layout, but sadly the course is quite dry and the fairways definitely need a good drink. Also having played growling frog for the first time recently, i realised that it does not come close to the better courses (ie. the GF).

..i'll come up with one soon..
