The Rules cover a plugged ball in Rule 15. The language of the Rules is embedded (instead of plugged).
If you grab a Rule Book you’ll see the details in Rule 25-2 page 102.
What you should do in future playing to the Rules is lift the ball, clean it if you wish, and drop it as near as you can to the place where it was plugged. By the way you must not do anything to the hole left by the ball plugging in the ground.
If the ball plugs agin by dropping or rolls into the original pitch- mark you can re-drop.
If it plugs again you can place the ball close by.
The Rules allow the relief under this Rule only on the fairway. If the Committee in charge of a cCompetition consider there are a lot of wet areas in the rough needing consideration they can post a temporary Local Rule extending the application of the Rule.

yes tim some water every times it rains this hole has water in the same spot. i try an hit it to this spot if i can i stops straight away then its jut a little gap wedge to the green. but this was the first time it got plugged i must be getting better lol

so instead of placing it i should of dropped it cool thanks for the help languid. where does one get a rule book from ? they would have them in the pro shop ?

randa.org …......is the online rules book

You better read 25-1 and the definition of casual water ….the relief is a lot different than described above for 25-2

or
http://www.usga.org/playing...

same rules we play under , but the site is better layed out and much easier to follow

Anyone seen a link for the Decisions in pdf format? I’ve only ever seen pdf’s for the ROG, changes etc…

where does one get a rule book from ?

yes otto, there is a little slim volume that you should be able to pick up from any pro shop for free (there are even starter guides that simplify the rules even more with lots of pictures)

read the rules once from cover to cover, and re-read the definitions a few times, make a note of anything you find surprising

do a few online rules of golf quizzes

when you get something wrong, re-read that section and ask the boffins that hang out in this section

do all that and you will know more about the rules than 98% of golfers I have played with

Reverse every natural instinct you have and do just the opposite of what you are inclined to do and you will probably come very close to having a perfect golf swing. - BEN HOGAN, POWER GOLF

If the Pro shop doesn’t have a spare copy try the office. All the Clubs are supplied heaps of copies. Don’t be afraid to ask for two copies. One for reading at home and one for your golf bag. Cheers

If you are a member at the local Public Library ask them if they have a copy of the latest” Decisions on the Rules of Golf” book. Most Libraries do. This is a bigger book but has more information re actual decisions on the rules.

A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all. :(

You could take relief under 25-2 and then, if you want to take further relief under 25-1.
