Relief for Ball in Lateral Water Hazard

Hoping that someone can explain rule 26-1©(ii) to me which I have never understood or fully comprehended. Under this rule, if a ball has gone in a lateral water hazard, a player can drop a ball outside the hazard within two club lengths and not nearer the hole than either (i) the point where the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard or (ii) a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard equidistant from the hole. I have never understood part (ii) of this rule. Does this mean that the player can drop the ball on the opposite side of the hazard provided it is the same distance from the hole? Can someone explain please.

Thats what it means. See Decision 26-1/14 and Decision 26-1/15. They both have good pictures. http://www.usga.org/playing.../14

good bit of fun if the hazard is really wide. We have a dam on our 9th that is 60m across but is marked as a lateral hazard. People don’t believe me when i tell them they can go over and drop on the other fairway if they are feeling energetic. Its about a 200m walk!!
