Most broken rules

At my club, the two rules that are broken the most are 6-3a (players arrive at the tee late and don’t penalize themselves) and 12-2 (players fail to mark the ball before lifting). Do others agree, or are there other candidates for the “most broken rule”? Geezer.

Who fails to mark their ball before lifting? I have never seen that.

At my club the most boken rule would be: I’ll go so far as to say 90% of the players who take relief from an imovable obstruction fail to establish the nearest point of relief before taking a drop.
yep, radar….this is where they think NPR is “Nicest Place of Relief”...not “Nearest Point of Relief”
Consultancy….if you’re not part of the solution, there’s big bucks to be made prolonging the problem. |
A rule which is constantly abused is taking more than 5 minutes to look for a ball. The sooner this rule is changed to 2 minutes the better.

Unacceptable comment.

You think botting smokes is unacceptable, Deege?

Geezer, the position of a ball which is to be lifted is to be marked if the ball is to be replaced. Therefore, if it is not being replaced, there is no need to mark the spot.
Hakman, if this is one of the women at your club, where’s the problem?
Me either. Are you talking about lifting the ball on the putting green or elsewhere on the course. If it’s elsewhere what are the players lifting their ball for – embedded, preferred lie (if in play), immovable obstruction or something else ?

My vote would be twofold around water hazards. firstly would be “assuming” the ball is in the hazard if it is within a bulls roar and you can’t find it quickly secondly would be dropping in the wrong spot to take relief. If i had a dollar for every person i saw try and drop along ” the line the ball travelled to get into the hazard” rather than a line from the point it crossed through the pin I would be able to buy a new driver!! many times this is to their detriment so its not a matter of cheating, just ignorance of the rule

She bots smokes too! So double rule breaker

As I mentioned in the original post – it’s rule 12-2 . Geezer
Sorry, but 12-2 is not about lifting without marking in general, 12-2 is about identification of the ball.

is the case that most rules that get broken somehow involve the rough?
...cos after all why would you need to do anything other than ‘play it where it lies’ if you are on the short grass. ;-)

I think dropping at the nicest point of relief as opposed to the nearest point gets a fair run.
And no holes anywhere – holes with sand or water can be so annoying. Fill them up, remove the trees and bushes, cut the grass and paint a white line line around the course. And get ready to play foot ball…

ah, yeah, kicking the ball into a better position gets a fair run too…

Definitely this… I also need to stop people from time to time dropping way outside of one club length.
Unplayable rule…generally but also with special ref to keeping ball in line with pin….eeekkkk!
It can be very difficult for some to go straight backwards into to rough when the fairway to the side is so very tempting..

Interestingly (or not?), apart from speed of play (see other thread), dropping for relief is probably the most common situation where tournament players seek a referee. Not because it is difficult but to make sure they get it right.
What other rules are we not playing by? |
Rough? Usually its in scrub or trees so they take the scenic route. Actually i see players every week changing their ball for no reason….i thought this was a breech? If so why is it ignored by so many players?
