Hitting Wrong Ball Clarification

Gday I was playing today with my brother and we hit our golf balls very close.. Just chatting walking down the fairway I walked up to the ball and put it to within a metre of the pin and then my brother said where is my ball to which I looked back and seen my ball.. We were not going to win anything on the day so we were not 100% on what the penalty was.. What is the procedure.. Does my brother just drop another ball to nearest to where he thought the ball was?

If you were playing a match, you lose the hole. If you were playing strokeplay then you get a 2 stroke penalty and must play again from the correct place. You brother must place a ball and play from the spot where you played it. It doesn’t have to be his original ball. He must continue with that ball for the rest of the hole.
What other rules are we not playing by? |

Is my brother allowed to change back to his original ball once on the green?.. He can change back after that hole has been completed, or he’s up for a two stroke penalty if he does it sooner. Rule 15-2

Played with a bloke yesterday who writes “BOB” ib big red letters on his ball….because that’s his name. You guessed it…...15th hole….hits the wrong ball. Sorry for thread hi-jack but I thought this was funny….not for him, only me….
Consultancy….if you’re not part of the solution, there’s big bucks to be made prolonging the problem. |

to continue the hijack…i mark my ball with a big black K for ken. I was playing one day with 3 others who were all called steve. one bloke walks up to my ball on the fairway, looks at the K and says ” is that yours”??? then he couldnt understand why i laughed
