course rating

Recently during a regular seniors event at my club, the playing conditions were atrocious, extreamly high wind (40/50klm) and temperature was 43 degrees, debris all over course and greens, sprinklers on on most fairways and greens to save them. BUT the course rating did not change – is the rating system no longer used for handicap purposes and if not what replaced it. Needless to say the scores were abnormally high reflecting the conditions. Who is responsible for any changes to playing conditions on the day.

In order of Questions. Since the new handicap System was introduced. Every course in the country has been rerated Using the US course rating System. While this process has been going on ,all courses have been using the ACR for the course used in that days competition for Handicapping purposes.

Courses are still rated, but at the moment there is no daily rating. For example, I play at a par 71 course that is rated at 70. So that is what we play to regardless of the conditions. Golf Aust does have plans apparently to reinstate daily ratings at some point in the future.

Damn you pom! You’re too quick.

Took me 20 minutes to type that up. Too bloody Quick:-)

Not having CCR realy sucks but I also wish they would at least be more accurate with the ACR. My mate has never had more than 26 points around my home course and I have never had less than 41 at his. The difficulty of the two courses is chalk and cheese yet it isn’t reflected in the ACRs.
If I could have any professional golfer’s name and any professional golfer’s hair, I would have Robert Rock’s name and Robert Rock’s hair. |

That ” Should” be fixed by the Introduction of Slope. Time will tell.

Many thanks for your prompt reply and I do appreciate your 20 minute response as I can now relay this information to my many senior golfing friends. We will look forward to the predicted changes to the current system to remove the uncertainties that exist.

Actually, the dropping of CCR was to reduce uncertainty. But so many clubs complained that a daily component will be re-introduced.

BGH, that certainly seems a wide variation. Slope will help to equalise things for high handicap players. What handicaps are you and your mate on?

BTW. Welcome to the Site Ivan. Only took me 20 minutes because my fat finger ( singular ) hits 2 keys at the same time far too often.:-)
