Exactly my point. 1 (tee shot) + 2 (penalties) = 3 shots (taken). Poor bugger thinks his next shot will be his fourth. He’s used to penalties adding on top of his shots, not replacing one of them.

I know, let’s make the game more difficult then you can get rid of the plebs that seem to so annoy you.

I have been involved in many sports one at an international level and I have never come across the attitude we seem to get in golf.

No post in particular just the whole tone of golf rules disscussions, always nit picking, back biting. How the game is going to become more popular I don’t know, it seems so many regular golfers have nothing but disdain for begginers, we were all there once, some never get out of there but still enjoy a hit.

But this is a rules area, it’s technical, it’s exact, it’s all about the details. You don’t need this forum to play regular golf, 99% of golfers never visit golf forums and play happily. But if someone is interested in a correct ruling, the correct answer will be given. It’s a pointless forum otherwise. There are plenty of other forums on ISG for character assassination.

You can say anything you like in the instruction forum and not be incorrect, but most answers here are objective and some askers feel a bit dumb or scared people think they cheated. So they defend their self-esteem by attacking the answerer because he came across a bit abrupt.

Steb , I take your point, the rules are very pedantic. I read the rules section because even though most of my golf is social I like to play within the rules, this gives me a true reflection of my ability.

I find many of your answers concise but I do have to switch off sometimes as we appear to have some dissenters no matter how simple the answer seems. Why we cannot discuss the rules in a civilized manner I don’t know but it is a subject that raises some hackles, unfortunately.

I think there’s always going to be differing fundamental values of golf we all bring from life. There’s some people I find I’m in agreement with just about every time they post, regardless of the topic, yet others I seem to time and time disagree with.
