Grass/Divot in Bunker

I noticed Duval played a shot from behind a bunker this morning that sent a lot of grass into the bunker in front of him.
His caddy seemed to give it a cursory look and moved on.
I gather that this is OK or does one need to remove the result of their shots from said bunkers?

The world is not enough.

This is an etiquette thing and normally the player really should remove the divots, but as it’s a major and we are in the US, I would guess there’s a “raker” ready to fix the bunker as soon as the teams and TV moves away.

And the players and caddies know this and move on.

Only a guess.

To golf or not to golf…
what a silly question

Doc, I note in your response to my query that you mention the tournament is in the USA. It has occured to me before that the Americans must hate playing a game where the Rules are basically set by another country, or are there any distinct American rules (other than for TV?).

Maybe only relating to alligators, snakes and stuff…...

The Rules are not set by “another country”, the US had until 1952 their own set of Rules (set up on the frame from the R&A, true) but distinctly American.
In 1952 the two Ruling Bodies R&A and USGA merged and the basic Rule Book is exactly the same, as are the approx. 1200 Decisions on the Rules of Golf. The two Ruling Bodies meet every 2 years to discuss relevant changes and adjustments

The USGA has made 11 special Decisions for the USGA jurisdiction only, that all. Everything else is word by word the same except for differences in spelling: honor/honour etc.

Just to add to RD’s post.
The USGA, in conjunction with the R&A, writes, interprets and maintains the Rules of Golf to guard the tradition and integrity of the game. The two organizations are joint authors and owners of The Rules of Golf and Decisions on the Rules of Golf. Through an agreement with The R&A, the Rules jurisdiction of the USGA includes only the United States, its possessions and Mexico. The R&A is responsible for the rest of the world.

The Joint Rules Committee has two scheduled meetings per year.

One thing was evident watching Ricky Barnes on the 18th of his 3rd round… that we don’t get.. relief from embedded ball.
For us, it’s only valid on closely-mown areas (to fairway level or less), but they get it pretty much anywhere including the cabbage around the greens.

Seems like an easy out on a wet day when you’re not on target.

peter

ps. he didn’t get it anyway, but he was hoping.

The Local Rule on relief on an embedded ball “through the green” (in this case everywhere on the course except in any hazard or on sandy areas outside of closely-mown areas) is always in effect on my home course during the winter.
It’s just another Local Rule any Club or tournamnet can use.

Again – there are no Rules the pro-tours use that can’t be found in the Rules Book.
