Relief from water hazard

Ball enters lateral water hazard. Player wants to proceed under 26-1.c option ii. That is, drop the ball at “a point on the opposite margin of the water
hazard equidistant from the hole.”

What if the hazard at that point is designated a regular (not lateral) water hazard?

Can the player still proceed under this option?

Cheers, Peter.

yes

The correct answer would be NO.

The fundamental difference between a water hazard and a lateral water hazard is that (drop zone situations excepted) with a water hazard you will have to recross the hazard to play your shot whereas with a lateral hazard you may the option to drop on either side of it.

The equidistant drop option applies only to lateral water hazards.

I think maybe you have misread the post jp-mel. I believe peter was stating that the Hazard was marked lateral from the point of entry side but as water hazard on the side that he wished to drop equidistant from the hole.R.D,s answer was correct.

A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all. :(

26-1/13 Opposite Side of Lateral Water Hazard Defined as Water Hazard

Q. A player hit a ball into a lateral water hazard. The player wanted to drop within two club-lengths of a point on the opposite margin of the hazard equidistant from the hole, as permitted under Rule 26-1c. However, the opposite margin was marked as a water hazard. Was the player entitled to drop a ball within two club-lengths of the point in question on the opposite margin?

A. Yes. In such a case, relief is determined according to the status of the hazard at the point where the ball last crossed the hazard margin.

this rule confuses me, could someone list a quick practical sample of how it would be applied and brief description of hole??

relax & enjoy, it's just a game.......
