Cheap department-store putters (Knight)

Hey guys,

A couple nights ago I picked up a Knight putter from ShopKo (also saw it at Wal-Mart last week). It's a spinoff of Nike's OZ putter (I think it's called OZ... you know, the mallet putter with the little knob thing on the back of the face, kind of hollowed out mallet...), looks exactly the same, even has that kind of rubber on the face where the ball makes contact. Anyway for $20 it seemed to be a pretty good deal to me, and I was just wondering if any of you guys have tried similar cheap putters and what kind of quality they are. I used it a couple nights ago and I like it a lot, feels real good and I needed a new putter but didn't want to spend $100.

Anyone have any opinions of Knight putters?

Mate, I reckon if it feels good in your hands and you can putt well with it, go the cheaper version!
You can pay $$$ just for a 'name'.
I use a Monza style copy which to me felt much better balanced, I also putted better than with the Monza AND was a whole lot cheaper!

sorry I haven't used a Knight.

CartKidDane,
I think I might have bought the same putter, not sure about the brand, it doesnt have any writing on it or on the headcover, but at around the same price its about 20% the cost of the original and I think its a great putter.
I still refuse to pay big bucks for a putter as I know eventually I am going to want to toss it in the lake or bend it over my knee.

Thanks for the replies guys...

Very much agreed on the cost thing, no way could I pay $150 for a putter... I just needed to get something other than my mom's 1970 single blade putter.

I picked up a cheap putter a few months ago and i havent turned back , this putter http://www.conceptgolf.com....[/url] is super heavy unlike other 2/3 ball putters on the market ,which seems to makes things a bit easier when putting from 15ft+

bomber, that's a really weird lookin' putter... I think I like it though. Does center-shafted really help much? I imagine it kind of keeps the putter from turning at impact?

Bomber,

I was looking at buying the same putter until I purchased the SC Bulls Eye (two quite different putters, that's for sure).

Its strange looking all right! personally i love the centre shaft , i definently reckon the centre shaft helps with keeping square at impact, and the weight of it really helps with it to .

good luck Ducky, that looks exactly like the first putter I ever bent over my knee.

I had been considering it, let me tell you. I have started to get the feel of it a little better now, so I'll give it a chance before I rule it out.

Is this what yours looks like CartKidDane?

That's exactly it VJ... the ez roll zr5. Either I got a really good deal at Wal-Mart or that guy's trying to rip people off though; he's trying to sell it for $30 and says it retails for $60. Mine was $19.95 at Wal-Mart.

I'm really starting to like the putter, my putting has improved very much (due a lot to practice though). I bought a dozen Noodles tonight (the extra spin ones... rotini I think, can't remember right now) and they feel very nice and soft. I only hit a couple putts with them inside my house (didn't get home until 11:30 p.m.) but I love how the feel of the putter combines with the soft feel of the ball. Just feels great. I hear the noodles scuff easily though. I'm trying to find a good ball for around the greens (getting real good at chipping) with respectable distance, I mainly like soft golf balls that feel nice at impact. I probably would have bought Nike Mojos instead but Wal-Mart didn't have them. Also looking at the Pinnacle Exceptions. Probaby try both of those soon.
