Hi, Just a quick question - are the Rifle 6.0 shafts considered "stiff"?
Kind regards, Ben (Ducky).
|
|
I've got 5.0's in a set which is a good firm
"reg".
From memory 5.5 is probably closer to a True Temper Hope that helps.

It does, thanks very much!

I've got 5.5s - firm...

I've got 6.0 and they certainly are quite stiff. At least this is what I have read.

Me too 5.5's.

I have Rifles 6.5 and they are not stiff for me- and I am not a
strong player. Many people that I speak to about my shafts say that they would be too stiff for me, but they do not understand. When the bloke assembles them he makes sure they are matched perfectly between each other and the rated stiffness he assessed for my swing and wants.
For further information, send me a PM? |

I have no idea what my swing speed is. All I know is that it is strong enough to snap regular flex graphite shafts with no problems. Lets just say that my brother was not a happy camper after I snapped three of his shafts in one round (3 wood, 5 iron, 8 iron). 8O Kind regards, Ben (Ducky).

I went to the Taylor Made demo day about 2 weeks ago and the reg shaft was right for me in the r7, v-steel and rescue mid. I thought this would be the case as all my current woods have reg shafts. The strange bit is I demo'd the Muscle Backs and it was the 6.0 rifles that suited. I don't understand, stiff shafts have never been for me.

Basically, my brothers clubs were a set that I had owned several years before hand. I gave them to him as he played golf a lot more than I did (due to my other commitments). The set included (all regular flex graphite shafts):
Driver - TaylorMade Burner Bubble The clubs were well suited for me when I purchased them (when I was 14), and that was around five years ago. They were also well suited for my brother who had a less aggressive swing tempo. Basically, when we were golfing on holidays last year (which was probably the only time I had played golf in around 2 years), I snapped the three above mentioned golf clubs in the single round. The 3 wood off the second tee, the 5 iron on my second shot on one of the front nine part fours, and the 8 iron on one of the back nine par threes. All three of the shafts snapped just above the club ferrel. It wasn't all bad, after all, it did persuade him to buy some new sticks. Kind regards, Ben (Ducky).

I have 5.0's in my irons and woods and they are firmer than
DG300R but not as stiff as DG300S, tried some irons with
6.0's and to me felt like an iron bar, but that is just me.

Stiffer shafts arent just for higher swing speeds. They can
provide increased accuracy and better distance control, but
generally do require harder hitting to obtain longer
distances.
A good article on the different steel iron shafts
available.

On the broken graphite shafts. I have broken an old powerbilt
driver quite a few ago.

Ducky, I have Rifle 6.0's in my Eye 2's and really like 'em. The do play pretty stiff - to me they feel a bit stiffer than say S300's. There was a thread some time ago where we compared the 6.0's to the S300's.

I've got the 6.0's in my irons also and the best description I could give them is a little firmer than normal stiff flex but a touch less than normal XS. To me they play like a nice middle ground between stiff and x-stiff.

|
I could quite possibly have tried almost all shafts before I
purchased my irons. I ended up with Rifle Lite 5.5 and they play
firm in my opinion. The regular 5.5's probably played a
fraction stiffer, possibly attributed to being slightly heavier
reducing club head speed in my case.
