Matching wedges

Do you recommend using matching wedges? I have a mixture of 55 deg r7 (that is the one that come with my set), 52 deg rac tp and 60 deg 588 cleveland. All the clubs feel different and spin different. Thinking of ditching the 3 and getting a set of wedges. Are most people ditching there SW out of their set and replacing it with a blade type wedge as apposed to a cavity back?

I think you’ll find that most sets don’t come with a SW these days. They stop at PW. You decide what other wedges you need/want. If you choose 56 as a SW, depending on the loft of your PW, you’ll then pick the right loft for a gap wedge – often this would be 52. I would certainly recommend having matching wedges (beyond PW, certainly) as the weight and feel should be the same. In case you don’t know, gap wedges are necessary now because what used to be a 9 iron is now a PW, 8 irons are 7 irons etc. All because manufacturers want to pretend their clubs hit it further.

Do you want to sell the 588 ?

If you are going to get a new set of wedges, as well as the loft the wedges you will need to consider the bounce angle that suits the hardness of the fairways, texture of the sand etc. (Giveing that you play on one course more than others).

i think it makes a difference, especially chipping,.i use taylor made rac 52, 56 and 60 wedges and just choose the one i need for the shot. They all “feel” the same so it just a matter of hitting the shot well – not havng to allow for “this club is heavier so follow thru”” or “this is lighter – dont swing to fast”, the less you have to think about over the short shots the better it is.

Anyone using the callaway X forged wedges? Looking at gettin a 50, 54, 58 set. I have trouble digging under the ball with my rac 52 with 8deg of bounce. we have fluffy fairways so should i go with higher bounce?
