Loft / lie machines?

Just out of interest, what are these things worth? How hard are they to operate? Are the big and bulky? Cant say iv ever seen one, but i need to get mine checked and set soon. (Super soft mizuno irons)

Not that big or bulky but you need to have one properly bolted on a stand attached to a concrete floor for stability. It’s a PITA for the average Joe. You’re better off finding out what your local pro drinks & ply him with that for your 6 monthly check up.

thanks Tim

hi chris, i see that you play alot of golf at newcastle, i know the pro there, Jason he is good with clubs and i know he has a good lie loft machine so i would recommend you take them there next time you play

Yeah i know the pros can do them for you, but obviously at a price. Its generally about $50 to get them checked and set for a full set of irons.

Single figures are almost here! Only one more stroke!

Is $50 to much or would you rather play with clubs that are not setup correctly for you ?
Are you one of these players that have the latest and greatest clubs in your bag, but the handicap is still drifting out ?
Jon…
ps: Someone asked me recently if their clubs could be bent cheaply any other way than in the loft/lie machine. I suggested that because they were so soft, that if they lay them on the road and ran over them once or twice, you might get the angles right.

Chris you have to realise that $50 is not that much to get your clubs adjusted, Lie loft machines cost from $1000 to $3000, so i guess you either pay $50 to a pro or you go and purchase a machine, i know what i would be doing

Chris I made my own lie loft unit. It’s not that hard to make, if you have access to a machine shop, took me about 40 hours to make.
I brought a lie loft measuring unit, ( the one in photo) Bending irons is pretty easy to do.
Too tell club making is not hard. Few trade skills and a way you go.

Golf guy. Yes i have a new set of sticks, no my HC is not drifting out. It is drifting down thanks mate. My HC has dropped from 21 to 10.5 in 12 months, so i think its going pretty well. Dont make assumptions mate.

Did i say that $50 is too much to pay for getting loft and lie’s done? NO I DIDNT. I was simply asking how much they are, as it may be a better option to buy a machine for say $300 – $400 and it pays for itself after a few goes. My irons are very soft, so they will need to be set every 3 months or so.

Keyfie, most loft and lie machines dont cost that much. Golf mechanix has them for between $300 – $700 US.

Free, I made my own (Click on image).

Chris I think you are on the money, get your own unit, really easy to use. The place you speak of golf mech is a great place to buy from. ( they supply to golf smiths and others)

Also look at the golf works Maltby site as well.

Good luck with it. Just make sure you buy a good bending arm as the cheap ones can mark your hossel

That’s a mean piece of handy work Nigel!!!

Well done mate.

Cheers for that,
I pulled a bit of recycling at work. The aluminum and brass came of a robot head that is used for plastic injection machines. The base frame was part of a base rail used for a platform. The stand was part of a support for a vacuum system.
Lucky my boss plays golf eh!

Jack of all trades master of …....

I still don’t know why people don’t make there own clubs. Heaps more fun than buying off the rack. It’s not that hard to custom fit yourself, easier that swing the bloody things.
