$1000US To Spend- What set of Irons do you reckon ???

I am going to England this Christmas but am stopping off in New York for a week on the way, I am thinking with the current exchange rate I will buy myself a new set of clubs. I currently have a 4 month old set of Lind Apache Pro’s which are going great but the chance to buy in the states is too good an opportunity to miss. I would think by the turn of the year I would be around a 16handicap if I continue to make progress the way I am. (I have only been playing 7months or so.)

I was thinking about the Titleist AP1’s or does anyone else have any suggestions ???

I’m half thinking about upgrading my irons…. TM R7 Draws have caught my eye, but I haven’t looked too far into it yet.
Good bargains to be had out of the US at the moment!

WITB-

Buy the best freakin putter you can get. Then the rest on lessons.

Square isn’t good… It’s bloody fantastic!

i have the r7 draws – they are great!

Just buy off ebay us, and get some lessons with the change….

whatever you buy get fitted so you get the correct stuff, buying off e bay without a proper fit is just stupid, saving money to buy the wrong gear makes no sense, the Ap1’s are a good option for you

Spend the first few buckaroos on the TGM book – Fly to Perth and see Golf Guru for some club fitting and then take him out and buy him a big steak (he needs it) and encourage a discussion on TGM (won’t take much encouragement ;-)

USmerica, New York is a great place but I envy you going to UKland – I’d love to go over there and checkout all the museum’s, check out “our” history and see the magna carta. The 1215 and the 1297 documents.

Goodluck with the trip!

Go the AP1’s or, for a bit extra, the AP2’s :)

Fair enough Dwayne, I was under the presumption that he knew his specs, most large ebayers in the states allow you to change lie, length, loft etc….. Not stupid at all, money is better in you wallet rather than someone elses… Stupid is the person who pays full price…

How much do they “Draw”? I already have a slight draw with most irons…Wondering if these will turn it into a hook….

Another one to consider- Bridgestone GC OS Irons.

Im with longnstraight. I knew my specs and bought clubs off ebay. I got mizuno blades that would cost $1600 retail for $450 brand new off US ebay. If you know what shaft you need, everything else can be fitted after purchase. Eg lie angle, length, grip size, swingweight.

Dazza.. if you already slightly draw it.. is there a point in drawing it more?

I see your point. :)
Another option- Macgregorr M685 Forged.

From how he described himself and his golf game I doubt he knows his specs. I agree, don’t pay full price if you don’t have to however, I have heard too many sad stories of the guy that got a great deal then the clubs don’t suit and he then needs to buy another set and try and flog off the ones he already has

There are a few sad stories out there, but do a little research on the seller, ie check feedback and ask questions. I get stuff from the US quite regularly. Ironically, I have only been burned by a local seller.. Got my money back after haggling, but a lesson was learnt..

Single figures are almost here! Only one more stroke!

How did you go about finding out what the right shafts for you were?

You can check out the true temper website, they have a fitting guide. Just by feel i guess. I hit a few club with s300 and they felt good. I swing a driver at about 98 – 105mp/h and i hit a 6 iron about 155m, so i knew i was after a firmer sort of shaft. I had rifle 5.5s and they were nice, so a s300 was a similar flex for me.

Sorry I haven’t been able to reply yet. Thanks guys for your input. I am keen to buy over in the States rather than Ebay. As far as specs go I was measured up when I bought the Lind clubs and I seemed to fit into the standard specs on their charts unless they were telling porkies. What I am going to do between now and then is to compile a list of the suggested clubs then hit as many demo nights as I can and try them all out. I don’t live to far from Moore Park so I should be able to try most. Thanks again for the input and keep them coming I appreciate all the replies.
