New putter

So I’m thinking about buying a new putter, my current one is an old karsten series anser 2.

I’m tossing up between the new Ping Redwood Anser and the Scotty Cam Studio Newport 2.
Lot of cash for a putter I know, but I’ve recently landed myself a new job so I thought what the hell.

I haven’t had a good feel of either putter due to the fact that drummond / house of golf always have these bloody plastic things on them that weigh them down a ton.

So tell me the pro’s and cons of each, preferences etc :-)

Let me know if you want to sell your old one mate!

Everything I read says the Scotty mate.

I just bought an Odyseey XG 9 (phils putter supposidly)

You are crazy to take someone’s advice on a putter.

Go to the shop and ask them to take the plastic things off. Have a putt-off between all putter that you are interested in. Buy whichever one that you sink the most putts with.

I myself am loving the new Odyssey Tour series (number 2 to be exact). Going to be taking my 2 ball to the shop to have my own little putt off!

All that matters is how many putts you sink!
GOod luck.

If you are going super premium putters there are a few others you may want to add to your list like the Yes!, Mizuno Bettinardi, Guerin Rife…..

try before you buy…...and take your time… you will use your putter most likely twice as many times as your driver in a round!

who needs driver when a 3 wood will do???

AJ, have a putt with them but once you go Scotty you will never go back…seriously the roll is fantastic, the balance is just right but the biggest thing I have found with them is the distance control is excellent…they are milled out of a single block of 303 stainless steel (unless you go tour then they are German Stainless Steel $$$$$$$). They are a fair amount of money but for good reason.

Take it from a bloke who lost his putting and since getting a Scotty (or 3 :)) I am confident with my putting stroke again and am getting 9/10 putts within a metre (trust me, this is a big deal for me).

I am waiting for my Studio Select putter to arrive (from all accounts it is the best feeling OTR Scotty has made thus far)....currently using a Studio Style (has a GSS insert, feels good but I have found I am not an insert type of guy).

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

In terms of price, buy off ebay or over the net. Ive haggled shops down as much as i can with Scotty’s and I can still get them for about $70-$100 cheaper online (including shipping).

So check that out too, rather than just purchasing from a shop at retail.

Where online can you get the new Studio range? Interested but i have heard ebay is a big gamble

Hocka, the Studio Style range can be a bit iffy…you have to be sure about it…the Studio Select range thus far has no issues. There is a thread about it (http://forums.iseekgolf.com...) have a look at the photos at the bottom of the page….things to watch out for.

If anyone out there has bought a new Scotty Cameron Mid Slant out there from somewhere on the net that you trust let me know so i can get one!

The Ping Redwood putter series look gorgeous.

You will find the chinese fakers haven’t started to fake the Cameron Studio Select series as yet.

Be very careful with the Studio Style putters from ebay though.

ah well without being able to take them onto the course I’ve decided I’ll probably go with the ping, seeing as my old putter is very very similar. I did however find the scotty to be really well weighted, at address mostly, when putting it made no difference to me.

Ping for the win!

- thanks for all your input too guys.

i am currently selling a newport 2 for $200 on the classified thread
if your near by more than happy to give you a test drive

2 things matter in golf, where the ball is and where it has to go
everything else is irrelevant
