Which is better for a higher handicapper, who slices the ball?

Anyone use them? I would appreciate some feedback on them.

How much did you get them for?

When were they released and how much is the RRP on them now?

Both are great and suited to high handicappers

Burner Draw would be the obvious choice given you have a slice – they retail for $499, but they are going for under $400 now, and will be even cheaper as its being phased out.

The Nike is a bit more expensive at $599 rrp, but i was actually hitting one a while back at the range, and really impressed with it – went really really straight – even my deliberate hooks and slices were straight! – its very underrated – the first version was crap, but the new 5900 is miles ahead.

Goodluck with your choice =)

The Taylor Made draw driver should be renamed the Taylor Made, I am so closed driver. If you hit a slice with this driver, seek help. No pun intended.

You are kidding yourself if you think you can make it without hard-work.

Which Nike did you hit? I think i am thinking about the original one – which one are you talking about? Is the original THAT much worse – whats the difference?

So the Burner Draw is extremely closed…does this mean that you can hook it easily? Or does it go straight for a slicer, or even draw?

I was hitting the new version 5900, the old one is called 5300 i think – the new one is matt black, the old one is silver =)

i didn’t hit the old one on the range, so can’t comment on its distance and direction, but i did hit it in the nets, and its a shocker – it was made of 4 different materials (or 4 pieces, can’t remember) which gave it a really loud hollow ting that can be heard 10 fairways over, and the feel is just very dead, feels like your hitting a tin can. The new 5900 model feels much more solid and doesn’t have so many component materials and parts like the first one – giving it much better feel – still loud, but nothing you wouldn’t expect from drivers these days.

the old version retailed for about 799 when they first came out, then dropped to $599rrp, and now they are being sold about 400-500 since the new ones came out a couple months back

if you were to go nikey, the 5300 (the first square one) is the one i’d advise u to stay away from – i would get the burner instead, unless you are willing to pay for the new nike 5900.

thats my opinion anyway, its not gold, but hope it gives u something to think about =)

ok, so the nike has really crap sound, but what about its performance? Does it actually hit straight and long?

i never hit one on the range or the course, so can’t say – but from what people have said and told me about it, distance was pretty disappointing.

direction wise was a bit mixed – some found it awesome, others said no difference.

I have the sumo round, not square but hit both at the range before buying, loved the round, hated the square.

Very low ball flight compared to the round version, which I have already and nowhere near as straight as the round for me, I hit fairly straight though normally but hit a lot of low fades and pulls with the Sumo square, but for higher handicappers could be very different.

HugeSlice,

Having a driver that is set up so closed is, well, ugly to start with but maybe a few people like that? No, it will not make your slices turn into hooks. It may make your shots a bit straighter if anything but it depends on your SWING mate.
I will give you a great piece of advice here. TOO many people change drivers, seek a new one and tinker with drivers. Why? They believe the marketing hype that a certain driver will go straighter or longer and improve their game. Golfers get sucked in…that is the business like any business. If you are a golfer that is at a level of which you can “tinker and experiment”, go for it at your own will. If you are a golfer that struggles to find fairways, well it ain’t the driver, it is what you do after you take the club back and then impact.
As for Nike Drivers, yeah, some good gear there and who cares about the sound? Sound does not make a golf ball “go” better? They have good shafts, quality and are made by slave shop people in Asia with a gun to their head (joking) to increase productivity like most companies! Nothing against Nike and then again, nothing against Taylor Made. I have a combo of clubs from both.

You are kidding yourself if you think you can make it without hard-work.

nike square is down to either 399 or 299 at golf world at present. imho, it’s the most disgusting sounding thing around. horrible. but it seems to play pretty well, haven’t tried the burner.

I am a member of the slicer club and I swear by my Draw Burner Driver. Just go out and buy one. You won’t stop slicing until you fix your swing but at least you will find the right-hand side of the fairway fairly often. Also, look to change to a ball that doesn’t give you too much side spin. That combo has made a huge difference to my scores. I have had mine for 9 months and occasionally I get a little draw but not a single hook.

how much and where from?

Go internet from the US, even with postage it is heaps cheaper than Oz. I got mine on special in Singapore whilst I was working there but all the rest of my clubs have been over the Net from Edwin Watts. You will see lots of threads with the many other on-line retailers who are fine. EBay maybe dodgy but if you find something interesting just do a search here and see if the seller has been mentioned as good or bad

Huge
Try also the Ping G10 draw, Have hit one at demo day,
nice little draw shape, not sure $$
My swing speed is about 95mph and tried 9 deg loft stiff flex and hit 200m nicely.
I also believe that a draw bias driver is a band aid fix.

I hit the old Nike Sumo the other day and was very impress with the outcome. It was horrible sound that kept my money in my pocket. As for the TM Burner Draw, I will have to say it is crap IMO. The closed face at setup really confused me. I will not pay to get a driver that sits at a closed face as I can easily close the face of my existing driver at setup anyway. Also if you are not used to it (I’m not), you will tend to adjust your grip to square the face at setup.

Look for the TM R7 425. This is the runout model with fujukura shafts and I got mine for only $250 brand new. Look for the interchangeable weight kit and tune it for a draw. at least you will not be looking at a closed face at setup. Just my 2 cents worth
