Lob Wedges

I don’t have one, but I am wondering what people think of Cleveland Wedges and Titleist Volkeys for a high handicapper? I would like to take full swings for short shots instead of taking partial, hack-prone swings. In stores the Titelist and newer Clevelands go for 109 US dollars and an older model Cleveland go for 89 dollars. The milled- grooves are supposed to produce more spin, but does that only apply to highly skilled players?

i know there is a groupie here that hates the LW

me personally i find hitting them consistently pretty difficult
i have still no confidence in putting a lw in play
sorry not much help here :(

If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ?
Square is Good ? Sure is, if it's the right stick !

Jazz singer… leave the LW out and think about getting the ball closer to the hole with something else, perhaps your putter or a 7 iron. Hitting a lob wedge takes skill, a good lie at times and the bounce it has.

You are kidding yourself if you think you can make it without hard-work.

A lob wedge is so hard to hit it has the potential to save you many shots a round. Buy it, take it to the park/range/back yard and practice practice practice….you’ll hate it to start, but then you’ll learn to love it and believe me when I say it will open your eyes…

3 bad shots and 1 good shot is still a 4....
Golf is played in a very small area, the 6 inches between your ears...

One swing to hit the ball,
one swing to find a score,
One swing you bring to all,
And on the fairway find them.

Look at it this way JazzSinger. Half your shots ( Or more ) are hit around the green with wedge or putter & that is where long markers should be trying to save shots. If your course has tight lies around the greens or lots of bunkers that you need to “Lob” shots over then you can not do without a 60deg wedge, It is just too useful in those situations.Chipping around the green, If I want the ball to run I use a 52 deg wedge , if I don,t want any ruin I will use the lobbie. I have a Cleveland CG11 Lob wedge. Looked at the Vokeys but around here they were twice the price of the clevelands. See if you can get a demo club to try . But as Cliff said you need to practice, practice, practice.

A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all. :(

No one who ever had a lesson would have a swing like mine

I have a Lind 64deg lob, it is incredible, very hard to hit, but once I got used to it I really like the way I can just hit a straight shot with it, I don’t have to open my stance and hit a cut, awesome….

on bent greens I can make the ball dance with it.

Hi Cliffmanley,
I just bought a Lind 58 degree after using an old ram 58 degree LW and have found it very hard to hit because of the bounce.
It also sees to sit up quite high at the toe.
It may just be me but I went out today with a Cleveland 58 (used) and found it easier to hit than the Lind again.
Might have something to do with the loft… not sure, but unfortunately have put it to rest already.
Anyone want a cheap 58 degree Lind Razor LW!?

What’s the spec of it…shaft etc?

I carry a lobby…but most players use it in the wrong way…I really believe its best used for when you need it….like over something…if you have straight shot from 50 meters i reckon there are better choices than a LW

’s say its not the shot most of the time

Talk to Brad, he might be able to do something for you…

MW – Shaft is TT gold with midsize puepride grip.
Shaft is 1” longer than standard.
It may be just a confidence thing now that I have had a couple of shitty rounds with it.
Quality is fantastic but I am really a confidence golfer.
Like I said in my last post, once I switched to the cleveland I was hitting my LW much better.
Nothing aginst the Lind club, more likely the pilot :-)

How much do you want for it?

In my humble opinion a lob needs a good lie (plenty grass underneath) to be used at it’s best which for me is going over something.
Learn to bump and run with your 8/9i (using a putting stroke) as others have suggested.
Tai now a happily retired pro posted a reply once that said
“practice chipping off a piece of plywood”.
I go next door to the primary school and will chip for 30 min off hard packed dirt with my spin milled vokey (56 deg low bounce played off back foot) then 30 min off good lies.
Only goes 25m but quite high & works.
This will help with practice and confidence so that you don’t have a melt down when faced with this shot.
As far as brands go stick to what you like
I don’t carry LW as my courses are mainly clay based and not much grass.
Hope this helps Mate

i dont think they are that hard to hit if you get something with about 10 degrees bounce. Just avoid clubs with 6 deg bounce and under. They are lethal off anything but bare lies.

I have had it about 4 weeks and played about 3 rounds with it.
As it is black it does scratch/wear easy on the sole (colour i mean) but otherwise in good nick.
Paid abou 130 for it..
How about $60 plus postage?
Can email photo if you can give me your email address

Flick me an email. Is there any way to PM on this forum?

No idea.
Not sure how best to do it.
Any Helpers?
BTW.. where are you MW?

The milled- grooves are supposed to produce more spin, but does that only apply to highly skilled players?

I’ve read somewhere on this site that grooves only assist with spin when the ball is wet, or when there is grass between the ball and the club at impact. Apparently loft is the real producer of spin – some people have proved this with faces that don’t have any grooves at all.

now that’s interesting I always wondered how I could stop a ball at the practice fairway after hitting dozens of balls and looking at my 7 iron that hadn’t been cleaned and noticing there was nothing but dirt…

Is there a forum for buying and selling clubs on here? How many people have bought clubs they cant use or dont want? Although I understand that many people prefer something new…

Im looking for a driver but cant decide which way to go. Blowing dollars on a second hand club before making the big commitment on something off teh shelf works for me…

At the risk of looking like an idiot, where can I find the classifieds on here?
