Hexxgolf Ball

Anyone tried this ball? Weirdest looking thing I have seen. Then I suppose that’s what they said about the dimple ball when it was invented. They seem cheap enough, and sometimes cheap can be good.

this is their website…I have nothing to do with them.

That is one weird looking ball. Are they legal does anyone know?

I cant imagine it would putt too well

There is no actual photo of the ball so i cant determine how large the Hexx’s are.

It says they a legal, i wonder if putting will be an issue.

that is one realli weird ball
putting would be a nightmare

saw them in the latest pacific golfer mag. if you played that ball on fast hard greens you could never get it to stop could you?

it would roll forever… don’t tell me they have invented a special hexagonal putter to use in combo with it.

was this the rejected “augusta control ball” oooh this is how rumours start…. hahaha

Vision has Russell as the aussie hero name, will Hexx go for Robbo or Wazza or Jonesy?

hahahaha all in jest!

who needs driver when a 3 wood will do???

It might be long, but with all those flat surfaces it probably slices and hooks like a boomerang.

Reverse every natural instinct you have and do just the opposite of what you are inclined to do and you will probably come very close to having a perfect golf swing. - BEN HOGAN, POWER GOLF

The blurb says it has a smooth surface.

My balls glow in the dark!!!

think they saw the callaway design and just took it further

"All i want is a honest weeks wage for an honest days work" - Sgt Bilko

don’t see why it would be any different stopping on the greens the dimples on a normal golf ball are not what grips the surface

it is a nice gimmick but i dont see it catching on

I might buy some for a laugh.

Sweet, now i can combine my favourite games, soccer and golf, into one!

It never ceases to amaze me that marketing departments completely ignore the fact that if a golf ball is “LONG” then it is by definition non-conforming and therefore breaks the rules of golf.

All quick, jerky and wobbly motions are improper execution.

speaking of marketing…I bought a set of tees back from the US that were ‘guaranteed 4 to 6 yards longer’ because of their ‘lower drag coefficient’...made myself and my mates laugh :)

Although in saying that they were $7 for 50 and I have not broken one in 6 rounds since…so they are fairly strong

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

what will they think of next?

nearly??!!!
if only !!??

If titleist made one and the pro’s were using it, you’d all be lining up to buy it in the dozens.

Former Top 10 on the PGA Tour ISG Money List.

I’d love to try one, but I don’t want to buy a dozen….

Ditto. It’s either a bit of a gimmick, or something well worth trying.

I’d like to see what they do in the air. Will they fly straighter or swerve more on the same shot because of the grooves vs dimples thing? I think the distance thing is a bit over-rated if they are more or less on a par with dimpled balls.

Good golfers will also be concerned with softness, spin and feel, but I can’t say that I’ve ever experienced any of those things in my game, regardless of the ball. :)

I may well have the worst short game in Australia.

My favourite ball is the Pro V and V1X they are both soft and fly well off the club.

I have a feeling these might grip a wedge better, that would be interesting to try out…

Hey Boz, what’s your take on this stuff. They won’t stop the ISG family from buying Vision balls, but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts (as a professional in the business of balls) on how this ball would operate. Will stop all the guessing I suppose.

Hey Dave,

Got your note and I have been tossing up what to say as I don’t
like to bag things or talk about things I am a little unsure about.

Issues to look at,

The ball is not on the USGA conforming list at present, but it is
allowed to be presented as Conforms to the R&A -USGA rules
if in fact it is conforming. It just is not allowed to be used in
certain competitions.

Smooth balls don’t tend to create enough lift to stay airbourne
for longer than a dimpled ball, this relates to the reduction in
the low pressure effect. Hockey balls were smooth and then
they developed dimpled versions to make them easier to control.

Putting a smooth ball may in theory lead to a more consistant
contact point but the dimples work like good runners and help
a ball track straight on what is an inconsistant surface being
a grass covered green. The latest putting information from
the Break30 group in Europe would lead me to believe this ball
may skid/skip more than a normal ball before starting to roll.

I like this as a unique marketing idea but if you followed
the Adidas football/soccer development for the last World Cup
there was a lot of work done on the inflight stability or lack
of it with different ball panel patterns but from my football
experience I don’t see it being more stable than a standard
dimple pattern let alone a more modern wind tunnel tested
big dimple design.

Anyway like I said I have not seen or played with them yet but
if I see some merit in testing them, I will let you know if I see
anything that is relevant to the group.

Cheers,
Boz.

Time to change!

Thanks for responding Boz, that is the sort of stuff I (and I am sure a lot of others) were waiting to hear. They might be alright to have a try of, but I don’t think anybody would consider them as being a piece of equipment that may improve your game.

Hard to say anything more about the ball in question without actually trying one. There was however a very good article about Anthony Kim on one of the S.I links.

I am going to try them… price is OK… and they conform to the US rules… why not… and They are an Aussie thing… I will let you know how I go…

As far as the comparison to a soccer ball… I imagine it is totally different as a soccer ball is large, light and any golf ball is compact, dense and relatively heavy.
