Launch Monitors

Just the other day I tried out a new driver (Hibore XLS, 9.5, stiff Fuji gold shaft) on a launch monitor. I was surprised to find that the figures I got seemed much less than my ego was telling me. The figures were: 105mph swing, Ball speed 155mph, launch angle about 13.5 deg and (the killer blow) a carry of 242 YARDS (about 220mtrs)!!! I can’t really believe the carry figure as I carry obstacles on my home track that have been lasered numerous times with a carry of at least 240mtrs and just last friday I hit a green that is an uphill 240mtr carry. On another hole there is a bunker which is a downhill 267mtr carry which I have been able to get over for years. I’m at the stage now where I can use my 2i Hybrid to get over it. What gives??

download google earth, and zoom in on your golf course. you can map distances with the ruler function… you will find it interesting. courses in the US are pretty defined… not sure of ausy courses in your area.

Basically what I’m saying is that I don’t think much of launch monitors used indoors. As far as I’m concerned they are about 10 – 20% pessimistic. Thanks joshboody, I didn’t know about that feature. I’ll try it out. P.S. I would of thought that someone with a clubhead speed of 150mph would have no trouble turning pro. I guess it’s only the short game & accuracy that’s holding you back?

Or are most golfers 10-20% optimistic with distances. reading forum threads it would seem that way!
down and out…did ya get that? |

Couldn’t agree more. I’d really like to see that…

AB; the voice of knowledge… Unfair? How’d did you come up with that one? After a quick search, I see the overarching content of your posts seems to be if people don’t agree with you then they are blatently wrong about the ‘facts’ according to your studies. I’m sure there’s plenty of people who could cobble together a 50” shaft with a head that’s got 2deg loft and bump one out to over 300m. But as I hit more than 1 club & 6 shots per round it’s not that applicable to the golf I play; you’ve found your calling, so knock yourself out. As for traveling to Melbourne to watch you hit a ball; scratch that one up to a life altering pilgrimage for sure…

You missed the boat haven’t you… As for laying the bait, why’s that? Sales a bit slow?

Hibore….. My 2 cents here. A lot of people really don’t like my launch monitor either. The number of guys that come to me and perceive that they are bing shown numbers 10 % or more shorter that what they see as real world is staggering. But once they understand we are talking about a calculation using zero wind, 60% humidity at sea level at around 20* c they understand a little better. When they realise we are only looking for a comparison between clubs and we are not using it as an actual representation of the real world things become far easier. I do happen to think my launch monitor is a little harsh at the top end, but that may also be a result of me having flattened faces on a lot of my practice heads and some fatigue in balls.
