Discussion for The Cast Iron Manufacturing Process

Rather fun to see how clubs are born.

Many years ago I worked in the metallugy industry. We used the Parlanti process to cast nimonic steel turbine blades and other products in aluminium alloy dies at around 1600 oC. Very accurate castings with complex curves/shapes. I wonder if this process would be easier than the lost wax process described in the article.
Cheers,
Bill

Hi Bill,

I’m not that technical however my understanding of turbine blades is that they have to be perfectly smooth because they spin at such high speeds, even the most minute blemish could affect the aerodynamics. I am sure that products with such critical performance requirements would be made using a more expensive casting process to that used in golf clubs.
