A friend of mine has just started playing golf at the age of 60 and plays well enough to enjoy it. He used my wifes driver (14 deg ladies flex shaft) and can hit about 140 m on best effort. He has asked me to source a driver for him. I have looked at the Nike Sasquatch Sumo 2 driver with 13 deg. Also thinking of ladies flex and length. He is about 5’ 6”. This is about $240. Does any one have any better ideas. Price not the real issue. Another issue that arose from this investigation is shaft stiffness. They seem to have it in Ladies, regular, senior and stiff order. I thought more flex in senior then regular?

Best to go to a demo day or at least try some demo clubs at the range. That way he can try some ladies and seniors club. Even better, get fiitted professionally and have launch angles etc measured.

Thanks Race105 that makes sense but it wont happen that way as he wont spend that time to travel around to the different demo days. He just wants me to find something and “close enough will be good enough”.

Most shops will tape up drivers for you to try in their cage or range. You should be able to at least do the basics at one place prior to buying or ordering.

Ladies, regular, senior and stiff that looks like alphabetical listing nothing to do with actual flex

Try the 14 degree Orka HL. Works pretty well with a whippy shaft in it.

I would suggest going to a professional club fitter to see what type of shaft, loft, lie etc your friend needs based on the actual swing mechanics etc

Cobra Speed LD Seniors flex or Cobra L4V M Speed in reg flex

The thing with going to a professional club fitter is…Do they really have their shit together? Not many do and if you can find one that has their shit in order, you are onto a winner. uraknob

Yes, I know that there are a number of cowboys out there who just want to get your money and see the back of you, but there decent club fitters out there, and decent Pros who will work out what club you need and then not get pissed off if you don’t buy it there. The thing that we don’t know is, how fit/flexible is this 60 year old?
