Callaway X460 driver

Just curious as to what everyone thinks of the X460 drivers. I have a cobra gravity back which I love but distance is now behind many of the newer drivers on the market.

I purchased a Cleveland Launcher 460 last year but have shelved it due to high ball flight and dispersion.

I didn’t like it but I know plenty that do…

madfish….I’ve been using an X460, regular Fujikuma shaft, 11 deg, for about 5 months with mixed results. Bear in mind that I only score in the high 90’s so I’m no expert, just my personal opinion here: on the plus side it’s pretty forgiving, I’ve hit some (a few!) out on the toe and still get good distance and they stayed on the fairway…my good distance is around 200-215 mts. When hit in the sweet spot it’s a bit extra distance and of course a whole new feel….I’ve hit a few longer shots on rare occasions that the planets have aligned etc, one out to 273mts according to a mates “wheel thingy” but I probably couldn’t do it again if my life was at stake….most shots get a lot of height, good and bad alike…I’ve experimented a lot with ball placement but nearly always seem to get a lot of height apart from the obvious fluffed shot down to my fault. A very light club to handle, and they say it’s 2 deg closed face, it looks like it’s more but that’s probably just my impression.
Personally I find the club a bit long at 45 inches, again that may be just me but it feels unwieldy, and there are longer drivers on the market. On the sound side, regardless of a good or bad shot it’s sounds like an aluminum can but that’s probably down to being all titanium.
I’m just not “comfortable” with it and will probably opt for something else in the next few months. Making allowances for my lack of experience and taking into account I can get equal and better results with my X3 Hot FW most of the time, I’m not entirely happy with it and looking for something else, but I’ll persevere for a little longer.

If there's no golf in heaven, then I ain't going there.

There is nothng wrong with the X460 drivers. I have 2 of them with different shafts and lofts and take them out for a hit at times.

You are kidding yourself if you think you can make it without hard-work.

If it is your dream, make it happen….

I am with tai on this one.
There is 100% NOTHING wrong with the X460
it’s in my opinion as good as the Hyper X w slightly smaller dimensions but still at 460cc though

For me the stock shaft is the BEST deal ! Fujikura regular
45”, my rating of the shaft is 9/10
the driver over all is 8/10
cf rating for the FTI is 8.5/10

But I have lead weighted my club head to incr the swing weight slightly and add a little draw bias to it….. and it’s the best driver so far

BTW, tai why are you Keeping 2 X460s ??
is it your regualr playing Stick ?

If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ?
Square is Good ? Sure is, if it's the right stick !

I have my X460’s as I like them. I also have a couple of Cleveland persimmon drivers from 1200BC that are smick and you can include some Tony Penna woods as well. They (X460’s) were provided to me when I had a small sponsorship deal with Callaway a while back.. One of them has a slightly closed face, the other, an open face. Both have different shafts in them.
I have used Nike drivers for a couple of years as much as people crap on about them but they are decent, however, I prefer the Taylor Made Burner (TP) currently.
Does thast answer your question KYC?

Just you play whichever sticks depending how you feel on that day sort of thing ?
if it’s a x460 sort of day then the x460s
if it’s a Burner then TM etc

Can only say the the X460 has been a wonderful club for me. Haven’t tried too many others, but it goes long and straight (well most of the time)

10 Degree with stiff graphite

ya, mine is 10*
stock regular
and some lead weights on the heel side
it’s head is not as bulky as some 460cc

probably should try hitting it off the deck as some of you seem to love

Try the FT-5, I picked one up for just over $300 odd as an ex-demo, it is fantstic for me and worth a look, Callaway site in the Us have them as well for that price. The ball flies really well for me with even tempered swing.

Flush it, chunk it, flush it, chip it, hole it 5 a half!
Flush it, flush it, three putt the half!

i think
if you put a good swing into the x460 its probably just as good
the diff may come in the mis hits
as the FT5 has a Ti cup face
apparently more forgiving in mishits

What do the weights give you? I’m assuming you’re looking for some kind of draw.

Is it a stick on tape you use?

yes it’s supposedly used to increase the ‘feel’ for a draw

seems to be slightly straighter
occ still whack that wayward fade…....

it’s those sticker lead tapes- pre cut you can get from your local pro shop or Rebel sports
mine is about 4 to 5 g in total towards the heel region

Thanks for that. I’m prone to the odd wayward right drive (I take full responsibility for myself on this though) so could well be worth a look.

Just one more question how did you arrive at the 4 to 5 g or was it just trial and error?

1 piece of that lead is about 3 or 3.5grams
so i used about 1.5 lead pieces

and it’s just purely trial

further the swing weight has increased for sure

but i dont mind a slightly heavier x460….

it doesn’t take away the slice, but i fancy it reduces a little onfthat waywardness or so i think
mayb a palcebo effect though

i am generally happy with the driver with or without the tapes
and rate it an overall 8/10, sometimes more !!
