Which Irons

Looking at getting some new irons, i like the look of the srixon i701 tours, mizuno mp-57 or even the callaway x-tour but i think these could be super seeded, what are your thoughts. Thanks.

I don’t think it matters too much if an iron model is superseeded, theres not likely to be a huge performance difference between old and new models.. Marketing hype will try and tell you differently. You will pay top dollar for the new model, If you like the superseeded model you might be able to get it at a fraction of the price.

Superseeded model is the way to go, I agree with Chris81. Save some money by buying the superseeded models and get some lessons. You get more performance out of lessons than the latest current model.

I agree with the two above. Superseded clubs will save you money and will not play any worse IMO. “New technology” as the marketers call it won’t make as much difference as I don’t think clubs change drastically on a year to year basis. Overtime, clubs may have changed but not really year to year. More importantly it will save you $$$. I’m pretty sure the majority of my clubs were superceded when I bought them which meant I could afford some good clubs on a students budget with enough left over to get plastered on a weekendly basis ;). What you do with the difference in dollars is up to you but lessons are always a good option.
1-L, it is all there my friend. |

I concur 100% with the 3 previous posts, get the superceded model clubs and get lessons with the savings and you won’t go wrong. Cheers Bob

hey kyle. i was in the same boat as you bout todays ago. where bouts are you. have you have a hit of the tm tp mb. i just picked up a set 3 to pw rifle flighted shafts for $920 from golfworks i found that the tm was the best iron and the best price. thanks joe

Hey Joe,
cool the x forged are ok but they dont really have that much more forgivness. nice looking club tho i would of got them but it was out of my budget range.

What sort of irons suit you? thats only something yo can really decide, depends on what your budget is, your HC, what you want out of clubs really. I havent hit the Mp57s, but they look very sweet and being a mizuno, they are gauranteed to be a sweet iron. I have some macgregor M685 mactec cavs with rifle flighted 5.5s. They are a great iron, nice forged iron with great feel and good forgiveness. I bought them off mickyboy ans he was always rating them, not sure why he sold them, i suspect he is quite the club ho! ANyway happy searching and check out the macs. they are a cheap club ATM.

Kyle, I own a set of X-forged with Proj. X 6.0 shafts, I absolutely love them but as Joe says, they are not all that forgiving. If you are a good ball striker I highly recommend them because when you flush them they feel absolutely wonderful… I don’t even feel the ball come off the club head which is how I know I have hit it pure. Great ball flight and excellent spin generation. I find the smaller head in a tour club makes me concentrate on swinging well so as to catch the ball flush. If you can hit them, the X-forged are wonderful IMHO, the best irons I have ever hit. Cheers Outcast

Hey Kyle, I was using a set of RAC irons and I wanted to upgrade. I tried a lot of sticks but ended up with a set of Nickent 3DX pro irons. I picked up 3-PW for $970 with Nippon shafts and I reckon they are heaps better than the TM’s. They are a new iron designed by the bloke that designed all the RAC and R7 product so they are the iron that was probably going to be the next TM’s. They are worth a try.

yeah my next set of irons will be the srixon 501’s I think irons made in 2001-2004 were the best crop…..theres some junk floating around these days that are sold on gimmicks

Wishon 550C or M
even snake eyes 600 B or 600C are a nice club. havent hit em but they look sweet as and are priced nicely.
The only clubs are MIZUNO, I have a set of MP32’s and every other club I have tried from the big names pales in swing and balance.

Good to see the marketing works!
Get the MP-67’s; sweetest looking irons available. Forget the expense; you only live once!

The new Cobra irons are very impressive. I just reshafted a set last week and the feedback was great. I liked the design and the way they sat on the ground, very sexy. The individual head weights were very even and made the balancing of the clubs that much easier.

i just bought the mp-57’s with Dynamic Gold R-300 shafts. They perform amazing. has added about 10-15 metres in distance compared to my old powerbuilt clubs. these clubs are a little on the pricey side but you wont regret it.

Thanks for all your feed back guys, i’m thinking i’ll go with the mp-57’s, they are pretty impressive.
