Stiffest graphite driver shaft.

I’m looking for a graphite shaft that feels like an extra stiff steel iron shaft in the similar sense that you cannot feel or see the shaft flex if you waggle it with your hands.

I want a shaft that is extremely rigid.

Any recommendations?

Why do you need a shaft like this? I have shafts here that could be used to reinforce concrete slabs.

Look at LD shafts if you want to go XX, XXX or firmer. The Penley John Daly XXX proto (now deleted) is an absolute plank. It makes the Graf Blue X flex look like your Nana’s driver shaft.

Alpha do a couple of 50’ Ld shafts that CPM at over 300 but feel like 350 …they’re that tip stiff.

Depending on how long you need it you could always grab something like a Penley Stealth 70 X flex & tip the bejesus out of it. Fuji Tour spec 757 speeders play pretty stiff.

Merely preference. I like a “concrete” feel in that the shaft doest move anywhere it is not directed, and that simply isnt possible ifyou can feel the shaft flex. A bit like a cricket bat or a baseball bat, I want a certain straight line that has no delay between movement in the two tips.

I had a hit of a speeder (I’m not that sure it was a 757, and I highly doubt it was tour spec, it was yellow by the way) in an X flex and it still had too much give for my liking.

Given your posts over the last year, I can see a man barking up the wrong tree.

Care to elaborate.

Ring up Bubba and ask what shaft he uses in his 6.5 degree driver. I am sure it is a palm tree.

You are kidding yourself if you think you can make it without hard-work.

While you’re looking up the tree…be it palm or whatever, I’ll give you a hot tip…. Unless you swing at 125 mph+ you’ll most likely lose distance & hit crap low block cuts with this type of shaft. Any wristiness in your action & it’s hooksville. If that’s the shot pattern you want from your driver contact me & I’ll provide you with what you want but I can’t in all seriousness recommend it. It’s just so unforgiving.

The only guys I know who play a shaft like this swing well over 130mph & they are a rarity. James McDonald from SA & Mark Bylsma (current Aussie distance record holder) from NSW are two who come to mind but James is a freak of nature & Mark plays Graf Blue X flex in his on course bat (or was last time I swung it).

You can still have a little feel in a low torque shaft which would possiby be a better option.

FWIW. Bubba has been using the GrafalloyBimatrix shaft in X flex. Low torque steel tip section.

I’d like to find a cheap plank to try first off, if I dont like it then I havent lost anything and atleast my curiosity has been relieved.

I’ve got a pro force 75 X flex thats been tipped about 2” I think that that would be a plam tree in any ones books, I’ve go a alpha system with a remove able hossel system. If you want I can pull it and you can try that if you like. I use that shaft to so people how going to stiff, won’t help there game too much.

Watch out typos + poor grammar.

I’d be happy to try it if it’s cheap, but unless you have paypal, the distance factor is problem. (I remember you being in Brisbane?)

I was thinking you could borrow it, they are as cheap as chips. look up the ust site, you will find a listing for the oz reps top golf. Forgot u r in WA. I know you want a xx stiff shaft, have you tried a more flexable shaft, if you have what happens. I know that you are after a real stiff shaft, but from a clubfitting point of view, I can’t see this helping out. The shaft needs to load up to work best.

I’m in Vic. I currently have an Adila NV in stiff and it’s too flexy. I’ve tried most recently a speeder in X flex and that still wasnt to my liking. I can understand your view from a clubmakers perspective, but this is purely out of my preference for the feel of a shaft. I may find (as you and tim have said) that it will be terrible, but I’d far prefer to trust my opinion of feel, than to keep playing with something I dont like and screws with my mental perception of what the club is doing and is going to do.

what about your iron shafts????

sigs are back – YAY

what about your iron shafts????

They dont bother me to the extent of my driver shaft, but at some stage I will get an x200 and put it in my 7 iron to see how I like it.

I’ve got a few at home.

email me my username in lower case at hotmail

I’ve got a few that are off the charts in terms of flex ;)

This is dead set one of the funniest threads since the boys left . . .

Shoulders . . . you are a total idiot. But I do like the way you try things out.

Good luck mate !

Don’t pay to much notice Shoulders, my mates where all laughing at me when I started building my own clubs, after only playing the great game for about 3 months. ( guess who they come and see now for new sticks). There is nothing better in life than pissing in the wind, and even if you are, nothing better than doing it with a simile on your face. let us know how you get on. Cheers Nigel.

Dont worry I’m used to it around here, it’s quite funny actually.

MSH…why does it need to be graphite? If you are just having a play a steel shaft will be a cheaper option just to have a look?

down and out…did ya get that?

It doesnt have to be graphite, but I wasnt aware of steel wood shafts that are at max 85g.

You are an idiot, steel shafts range from 75gms to 140gms and come in all of the 5 flexes known to mankind. Atleast research your topic before you act like a tool, in the discussion. You should call yourself, Howtoembarrassmyself.com Jon…
