Titleist have always had the reputation of being players clubs has that changed with these drivers

Whats the difference in the models, and are the closed face or square, would a 12 hadicapper be ok with either?

so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead

Dave, the driver is to long for 95% of golfers, I’m friends with a Titleist sponsered player, He hit it a couple of times(d2), didn’t like the ball flight and gave it to his father. If you are a mid handycapper you shouldn’t be using a driver that is any longer than 44”. I know people are going to jump up and down here, but the simple fact is that, the avg lenght on the tour is 44.5”, and you have to ask yourself the question are you a better ball striker than the guys on tour?If you are going to pay that much money for a driver make sure it fits you.

I too have heard that Titleist are a ball-strikers club. I’m not in single digits, but somehow I have always found Titleist drivers work for me. The D2 (normal shape) is sweet and easy and long. The D1 (stretched shape almost like a triangle) is OK but I was put off by the elongated head shape.

As i just mentioned in the other post, the 44” driver worked for me. Straighter drives = less wasted shots = more GIR = lower HC for me.

i do believe that Padraig Harrington’s normal driver length is 47”.........he’d be one of the FEW exceptions to the above. I myself use 44.5”.

sigs are back – YAY

Nigel – just to confirm – where exactly do you measure the length of your driver ? Is it from the butt of the grip to where exactly – the top of the hosel, or the centre bottom of the face ? If the latter then mine is 45 inches.

the butt of the grip to the centre bottom of the face is correct, I’ll scan a text from one of my clubfitting books when I get home.

I’ve tried both at a demo day! My handicap is…GOLF. in saying that i think that both these drivers are easy to hit and quite forgiving and would help anyone. I think best way would be to try one at a demo day or shop.

I tried 9.5 with stiff flex for both models.

I have hit the D2 w/ the UST V2. Not too different from the 905r. As mentioned above Titty gear is more targeted at low handicap golfers. Remember these drivers have a square face and have neutral weight to promote shot shaping.

I tried the D1 (triangle shape) at a demo night and was pretty impressed.

I’m a 12 handicapper and tend to spray my drives around but I was hitting this one pretty straight. Mind you I only hit about 8 or 9 drives. Still if I hit as many straight, solid drives each round as I did that night I’d be one happy camper. From memory the shaft was the Aldila VS Proto 60 in stiff.

I used a 905 R demo 9.5 stiff aldila nv shaft green. hit it well for a long time (work in a golf shop so used it for months!) the D2 came out and i ordered one for myself which is a 10.5 stiff aldila Nano proto shaft.

Overall i would say the d2 goes Lower although i prob should have gone for the 9.5 as i hit it high. The face of the d2 feels hotter than the 905 r. there is a difference sound its a louder ting instead of a more mutted hit with the 905r.

I havent ever heard of the length of shaft being longer. didnt really notice it when i picked it up although just looked on the internet and it is 45 inches. but looked at the superquad which is the same length and the burner is 45.5 inches. so dont worry about the length half inch aint really going to make much difference!

i havent tried the D1. i just cant get over the triangular head shape so didnt want to try it The d2 has a normal head shape. the d2 is supposed to be for better players. both drivers have high MOI so your off center hits should turn out good.

overall the D2 IS AWSOME. i love it so much and drive it well all the time. its much easier to hit than the 905 R. Just to let you know i tried ordering a d2 in a regular shaft for someone and it is actually a custom order the d2 comes standard in stiff.

oh yeah the headcovers can be a pain in the arse with the zip!

This from Tom Wishons common sense clubfitting book , the wishon method. Sorry the scan is not too flash as this book is over 500 pages long and my scaner is not all that big.

Hi Dave – I have owned both and would suggest you stay away from either. The D1 is disgusting – even worse than the square head sumo drivers. The D2 is a great driver, but not for a 12 marker – you would be better off with a Cobra LD F speed or a Taylormade Burner. You will get much more value out of these. Don’t get me wrong I am a Titleist player currently using 695’s – but there are better options if you play off a handicap greater than 5 !!! Listen to the advice of Nigel and make sure your driver is no longer than 44.5”

thanks guys for all of that. I did test a D2 in Melbourne on the weekned, not bad very low ball flight though, not worth 600 or 450 on ebay though.

so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead

You can get them in the $250 plus range from the US if you search. Yes for a really one. The Proforce shaft is vert stiff though. So try them at the golf shop first.

I play a D2, with a blind bore install, and it is longer for me then anything else, Burner TP, SuperQuad TP, 460, FT-5. I hate bore thru drivers, but a blind bore brings this head to life, plus it allows the shaft that you play in it, to play true…
