Shank Catcher

I have a practice net set up in the backyard. While I don’t like to admit it, I do occasionally hit a shank (Come on! I’ve even seen Tiger hit a shank!). Of course, the ball missed the net and went straight through the garage window which cost me a packet to repair. Now I’m too scared to practice! Is there anything I can use to catch the shanked shots?

I think using the garage window is the best thing for it – use it as determination to never hit another shank! But seriously… hahahahahahahahaha.

Easy to say – not so easy to do. I also want to let my teenage son practice so even if I’m perfect, he might not be. Is there no commercial product out there that catches mishit shots? Backyard nets don’t seem design to.

One of the best golf books I have read is Let ‘er Rip by Gardner Dickinson who played on the PGA tour with the likes of Hogan and Snead. He tells a funny story about two prankster loving fellow pros who just for fun challenged each other to a “shanking contest”. It was on the practice range one morning prior to play and the lads were having a wonderful time entertaining the gallery who they had in fits of laughter. To cut the story short, one of the two actually shanked the ball 5 times during the round that followed.

Big old cardboard box to the right of the ball?

my practice net is like a cage….even behind me theres protection :)
so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead |

It is so true! Not the sort of thing you should mess with – the shanked shot is the most destructive thing in golf! I’m trying to avoid them but if I hit one, the consequences are severe – so I’m looking for something to put there to catch them.

my worst mistake was in a comp two weeks ago I have a habit of standing a bit close to my ball when making my practice swings, I nearly killed a guy on the next fairway after hitting the ball when making a pratice swing suffice to say I now stand no where near the ball when making a pratice swaing :)

Another net is the best option…My net is more like a cage with a net to the front and one to the right…nothing to the left as I have yet to have issues with the reverse shank! Built it from gal from bunnings…costs a bit but solid.
down and out…did ya get that? |

mine cost stuff all, used PVC piping from a buliding that had been knoicked down, and an old fishing net, fishing net (backed with chicken wire) is the best, because it doesnt get affected by the rain, its built to last salt water so rain doesnt affect it cost me 20 bucks all up and 10 of that was for the glu eto glue the piping together
so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead |

Crozzo you should have been honest in your first post. Now you look like a BS artist. How about “BS catcher”. BS of course standing for Bad Shank.
