Yes top of the line, but the profile of the shaft must fit your swing.

Top of the line price wise & they are planks. Pretty, satin finished, stepless planks but planks nonetheless. This is why there is now a high launch version on offer from TT. Coincidentally the guy who designed these puppies has designed a new line of shafts that are due out very soon for FST which look very interesting….very interesting indeed (best russian secret agent voice needed here).

Must say I like the fst line as well, play true to flex, and a good price.

Longandstright, Why don’t you have a crack at knocking a test club togeather. It’s not all that hard all you need is a couple of hand tools etc,If you want I can walk you through online and see how you get on, Its s#it loads of fun building your own clubs, I can give you a maths model to work out the swing weight etc..If you think its great hitting a great shot on the range wait, to you do it with a club you built. Cheers Nigel.

These are a great shaft if they fit your swing profile, you are either a DG guy or PX guy! I really like the PX’s they are the best steel shaft I have ever hit! However I much prefer the non flighted model, as they produce a far flatter ball flight, but stop nicely on the green…

djhgolf, I just got my clubs re-aligned and shafted with Project X’s at Clubtech in Coburg, thank you for the recommendation in the “clubfitting” topic. Those guys were really helpful and excellent in customer service… Cheers

Don’t get too excited about these babies unless you have deep pockets. Change of ownership/distribution means they now cost wholesale what they used to cost retail.

What type of swing would you suggest fits the profile of the Project X?

there are a couple of types of pxs theres the high launch, standard, and x flighted which one are you looking at, by the way these shafts are as dear as posion around the $30 usa mark. There is a shaft company around called fst and they have a shaft called a pro white shaft around the $15 mark and easy to get your hands on. Play a lot like rifle shafts but because they are a r/s flex you get a lot of shaft to play with so you can custom trim them to be a higher flight shaft. One thing though if you don’t have a late release you will not see much of a different in ball flight you have to be able to hold that wrist cock and unload though impact. If you want to see someone who is a great example have a look at fredie couples.

Tim smarty pants :), I was just in the right place at the right time. Some guy used them for one round, and traded them in, so I got a really good price (price you would pay for normal Rifle shafts).

However, I would like to know the player profile that the Project X fits?

Hey Nigel, just the standard Project X player profile. Cheers

Don’t worry mate, these are good shafts. I found though that they play stiffer to flex than most other common shafts. Perhaps this is why the typical mid-high capper would find these ‘planks’ as to keep bragging rights they may have chosen the wrong flex to what they were used too? I liked the flighted version but the standard version has a lower ball flight as I hit the ball fairly high anyway. cheers

Cheers Micky, they do play stiffer than usual, and I find the balls flight is more penetrating and lower. Just don’t know if a person of my ability should use them.

Depends on what flex the pxs are.

They are 5.0 reg flex, but feel stiff to me.

What is your swing speed, tempo and release like.Which clubs are feeling to stiff, some of the irons or all?

Hey Long,

I have always used x100’s before making the switch to PX 6.5’s. But I tend to have quite an agressive action from the top, I have swiched to the standard PX, from the flighted, and are the best shaft I have used IMO. You will need a couple of rounds to get use to them, and by then you will either love them or hate them, if so go back to R300’s they will feel alot softer.

My driver swing speed was clocked at 98mph, not sure on the irons. Before this R7 set I was using S300’s on Cleveland TA2 irons. Each iron feels a marginally different in flex.

Your in the ball park when it comes to the swing speed. They have got a firm tip section that could be making them feel a little stiff. Maybe you should soft step them by 1 or 2. you might get a little higher launch and the will feel a little less stiff.Swing speed is one thing you’ve got to look at your hole swing tempo and release as well. Feel comes in to it as well, if they feel to stiff even when you hit them dead centre they just might be to stiff, the s300s( your old shafts) are quite a stiff shaft as well but they have a different bend profile, let us know how you get on.

I must admit Nigel, when hit flush, it feels like I am hitting a forged head, pure bliss.

The shaft is much more stable in my hands and according to the carbon tape way more consistent of the face. Just feels way stiffer than any other I have used.

What do you mean by soft stepping them by 1 or 2?

Being a game improvement iron, the R7 already launches pretty high, however the ball flight is way more penetrating with the PX’s, like an arrow going through the air. Hard to explain.

soft steping is when you trim the shaft less, ie 1 step would be using a 7i tip trim and putting it in your 8i, 2 steps would be 7i trim and putting it in your 9i. Makes the tip more flexible.

Or in the case of tapered shafts you put the 4 iron shaft into the 5 iron head & then butt trim to length & so on. It makes them play roughly a quarter flex softer. You can hard step by going the other way.

I’d suggest it’s the firmer shaft giving you that dart throwing vibe. 5.0 is not crazy stiff by any means

The issue is how it will affect your bad shots & if you will get tired faster because you are having to muscle the ball every swing. See how you go for the next few rounds. Take note of how you hit the irons early in your rounds (before you are fully limbered up) & down the stretch (when you begin to tire). If you are dropping shots due to missing greens early & late in the round but striking the ball well around the turn then I’d suggest softening up a little on flex. Ideally you’d like to be able to hit the ball with the same consistency all round long. Being able to swing a little easier can help accomplish this. Let us know how you get on.
