Just wondering about golf bags, We see most pros using staff bags that only have a couple of dividers through the bag, I personaly have a srixon cart bag that has 14 club dividers. I want to upgrade my bag but dont know what to do. What I want to know is, should I go for a bag with 14 dividers again, or should I look at a bit better bag like a staff bag or something a bit smaller but with less dividers? Does it really matter, what is the purpose of the dividers in the staff bags vs the ones in my current bag?, do you clubs get less chipped ect?, what are the pros and cons of each style?

The pros use those bags because they don’t have to carry them or pay for their own clubs in most cases. Bigger bags are heavier, take up more space in the car & when flying & generally just get filled up with more crap IMHO. I have both tour & carry bags & virtually never use the bulky tour model. If you want your bats to stay in better nick buy a bag with more dividers esp if you use graphite shafts as the clubs don’t slide around as much. Bottom line…buy what you like & need not what some guy on TV uses.

Cheers mate, I like the look of the staff bags but your right, they are big and bulky, I might go for a cart bag with the 14 way dividers! thanks again!

A realistic assessment of just how serious a golfer you are is the point. And attitude to weather will tell you the answer. I can’t think of anything on the market other than a Staff Bag which has sufficient storage to carry everything you need if your temperament or the events you play don’t allow the choice to not play or to walk off if the weather turns pear shaped. Lightweight bags have a lot going for them, and are doubtless better for the purpose of moving clubs around in. But. After the clubs, umberella, tees etc my standard bag load comprises: up to a dozen each of three different balls, wind jacket with removable sleeves, lightweight rain jacket, full rain gear, 6 gloves, 4 towels, plastic rain cover, microfibre neckerchief, bug spray, sunscreen, beanie, cap, floppy sun hat, brush, spike tool and spare spikes, bandaids, painkillers, shoelaces, leatherman….. You can always repack for the conditions of the day, but personally I’d rather just leave it all in there.

Bit of overkill there mate. My stand bag carries all that i need regardless of the weather. Lightweight rain jacket & umbrella if it looks like rain, tees etc, one towel inside one outside, painkillers, sunblock etc and two or three sleeves of balls. I also have two 750ml bottles of water in there as well. daacha

I Really like the Japanese style cart bags, they have more pockets then OEM staff bags, and are multi purpose, they travel well, fit on motorized carts and pull buggies. Tourstage make the best of them!
