I havent got a 3 wood in the bag, only driver and 5 wood, I use Cleveland 10.5 hi bore regular flex. I was fitted for that and it works well – I play off 15, I have been looking at ebay for a cheap second hand 3 wood. Has anone tried the following, Titliest 904F, Callaway Hot 3 wood, Cleveland Hi bore 3 wood, A mate suggested taylor made V steel which I have heard off as being good too. I also read sonartec are good also andmany others, just want something that is forgiving and easy to hit for about 180-200 meters.
so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead |

i recommend the adams tight lies excellent club good forgivemess and cause of its shape it is also easier to hit out of longer grass

I haven’t owned one but I’ve hit a V-Steel and they are great. You will get the older version relatively cheap on eBay these days. Considered a 14/16* hybrid instead of a 3-wood?

I have hit a few of the clubs you are looking at. If you are looking for something easy to hit I would look at the Callaway or maybe something from Adams. The Hibore is not as easy to hit as their driver. It is straight and forgiving but not very easy to get airborne despite the shallow face. I also play the Hibore driver so gave the 3W a go, wasn’t my cup of tea. The Callaway is an easy to hit 3 wood, good club. The V steels are a good club too, great price ATM. Not as forgiving as most though. Sonartec makes solid clubs, but I think they tend to be more of a players club. From my experience with Sonartec, when you flush it the results are awesome. Amazing ball flight and distance. But off centre hits don’t go too far. I have been on a 3W search for some time and have settled on the Adams Insight BUL. It is this years club, so you wont pick it up cheap on Ebay yet, but it is SOOO easy to hit, easy to get in the air and very forgiving. You can pick up superceded Adams clubs VERY cheaply. Maybe not on Ebay, but from the US. Check out Rockbottomgolf or TGW, you might find that even with the shipping charges you will still pick up a bargain. Another club you might want to consider is the Mactec NVG. For about $115 you can pick one up from the States, shipped. Another underrated club with good forgiveness and length.

I dumped the 3 & 5 wood and got a 4 wood V-Steel of ebay for $80. Fantastic club off the tee and fairway. Found I didn’t use the 3 wood as home course fairly open and would use driver most times and new Mizuno 20 deg hybrid was as long as old 5 wood so it had to go. Now I have a nice gap at the top end. Cheers

All Srixon products are good, and good value (although they are moving themselves up the price scale steadily). But.. their fairways and hybrids are standouts. At least as good as anything on the market (and IMO better), and considerably less expensive than comparable clubs.

Dave alot of moden three wood lofts are around the 14-15deg mark some as strong as 13 degs, loft is king when it comes to forgivnest. The sad news is these lofts are just to strong for most golfers to hit off the deck consistanly. I think an idea might be to demo one first before you invest your hard earned dollars.
Watch out typos + poor grammar. |

Interesrting to see see Adams name thrown in there. I have found them to be be super competitive performance wise bang for back against bigger name brands. Their Redline range may be close to being run out and they were magic for those needing a little help to launch the ball a little higher. The Srixon gear is always good in this department too. In any circumstance, unless you can hit them well, the best advice is to go try them out.

904F….they can be had cheap now and are IMO Titleist’s best fairway wood. I’ve got the 15 degree with an Aldila NV-85 and love it.
|
|
I picked up a second hand Orlimar 13deg steel head club and it rocks since I had it reshafted with an Aldila NV 65R shaft. If I am not hitting my driver well I pull the 3 wood and it goes straighter and nearly as long. I am beginning to think I might need to put an Aldila NV in my R580XD and it might solve my wayward hitting.

For a shallow faced 3 wood that is easy to hit off the deck, the Adams Ovation is a good club.

the adams tight lies 3 wood GT2 from ebay …is very easy to hit…. nearly as far as a driver- cheap as chips- we gave one of our employees a new a callaway driver and a 3 wood for his birthday – at the range we swapped…he prefers the adams and laughs at the cost.
nearly??!!! |

I play a Nike T60 with a regular flex shaft (standard). It’s a great club off the tee and easy to hit off the deck too.
|
|
I have a TaylorMade 200 Steel 15 deg in good condition you can take off my hands. Its sitting in my cupboard doing nothing as I use the 5 wood around my course.

Thanks again for all the info, bought an adams ovation second hand, 15 degrees. Easy to hit, can hit a nice little draw with without too much trouble. wqwas good value for $100. I think!!

Dave, have one of these myself, great club, got mine off ebay in US about 8 months ago for about $85 AUD landed here in OZ. You won’t go wrong with it

I recently built a Geek DCT 3 wood with a Grafalloy Bimatrix prototype FW shaft in reg flex. This is by far the best 3 wood I have hit for a long long time. I have played three rounds with it now and it is very long (average 230 metres but I have hit it 255 if I step on it all lasered). It is responsive, has a great sound and very workable. I had mine hand picked to 13.8 degrees 1 deg open face. I thought this head was all hype when I read the US forums but it really is good if not better. A great little club and all for $150 AUD shafted. The Graf shaft is really cheap now and suits me being butt and tip stiff. cheers

love sonartec fwy woods and hybrids.. but maybe not the most forgiving woods. Hibore is solid and i am sure you can find one for a good price. v steel is winner also- and with it being a closeout item— picking one up for low cost is easy..

V steel..is thye face closed face like much Tm gear or more like the titlesit 904f
