I work in a golf shop so I take out any club I like for a hit. (lucky eh!) Today, it was the SQ Sumo (10.5-Reg) and it went long or about 20m further than my usual drives with no extra effort. (I swing it at 102mph so I should of taken out a stiff shaft so my mistake). The thing is, we do not sell many at my work, maybe due to the price tag on them but I would like to know who uses one and what they think? Cheers guys…

So what shop are you pushing? :-P

If you make something idiot proof someone will design a better idiot.

I ain’t pushing any shop. I was just curious.

Just teasing…

Cool, perhaps I should push my place of work but I am not like that. I used to play/teach for some 15 years and doing the retail thing is new to me with golf. I actually hate retail and having said that, it just eats me that I work with other people who are not PGA. Would you buy clubs off a person who plays off a 16 h’cap? It’s crazy mate. I actually feel for customers but atleast I know I do the right thing by them and not crap on. It’s all about the cash coming in and not about caring for the actual golfer. Not the best practice. I think I will be going back overseas in time and be a teacher again.

The sound of those things would put anyone off!!!

yes, it is true I am an addict!

So, are you saying the nik-e stuff is to expensive or, you aren’t very good at selling top end golf gear ??? Or you should have taken out the demo with the stiff shaft, even though you hit the reg. 20+ further ? Or you can’t wait to get back to teaching 16 markers ? I’m not sure what you are after. Jon…

If you think that being a PGA member necessarily means that you know more about golf equipment and clubfitting, then think again. There are plenty of clubfitters who know more about equipment and fitting than ‘most’ PGA pro’s.

While I agree that a good knowledge of the golf swing is essential to good club fitting, it does not follow that a higher handicapper cannot have a good knowledge of equipment or fitting.

I am not knocking proffesionals – most are good at what they do. But, being PGA qualified means very little when it comes to knowledge of golf equipment and club fitting. In most instances, I would take the advice of a good clubfitter over that of an average PGA pro when it comes to golf equipment.

I am in Seymour, about an hour north of Melbourne. If we had PM’s I’d drop you a line. :(

Do you put the club back on the shelf and still sell it as new?

FWIW, I like the round sumo, the square is butt ugly.

disappointed with what you’ve said “it just eats me that I work with other people who are not PGA”, you sound like a complete toff!

obviously the play/teaching for the last 15 years has paid off!

i dont get it how come these guys dont have user names?

Mick, what would a rough gestimation on cost be for an analysis of the lie angles of my clubs and if need be to change the lie angles?

On that case I should get Mark Skaff to build my next race car. Or tiger woods, to build my new set of sticks.;-) Don’t write people off just because of there handycap. I havn’t even broken 80 yet.( getting close), I would gladly wage a large sum of money, that I would know more about fitting than you. PCS member and cert fitter.

Watch out typos + poor grammar.

Nigel, hitting 200 balls a day, I thought you’d be off +3 and breaking 70. LOL :)

About 6-8 months ago I had a complete swing collapse, went from hitting in the 80s to hitting 130 plus. Would not wish it on any one, it started in my driver and pretty soon I could not even hit a 7i off a tee. Not much fun. Working through it though. broke 90 the other day. So with a bit more hard work i’m hoping to break that 80 mark in 12 to 18 months.

I hear you loud and clear. I recently joined a private club 6 months ago. Decided to get a lesson 3 months in, and my whole golf world changed. My coach changed my grip, swing, the whole lot. I’ve been getting lessons every 2 to 3 weeks, and hitting 200 balls a week at the range and practicing chipping in the park next door. Just really starting to get the drift of late and beginning to get some confidence. But at times, felt like I couldn’t play, it’s like learning to walk again. Shot 41 Stableford points on the weekend, things are on the improve. You’ll get there for sure in 12 months, you are on the right track. Practice makes perfect….
