First.. not sure if this is should be on “Golf Equipment” or the “Classifieds”... so bear with me if I posted it in the wrong forum… Now to the topic… aside from ebay and the classified ads forum, what online shop do you recommend? Thanks.

Try tgw.com which is the golf warehouse in the states. Very fast shipping and good prices but get your specs done first at a club fitting store and then you can order your clubs fitted over the net.

I recently bought a set from golfdiscount and they were very good. I gave them all the info and they had custom made clubs at my door in about a week and a half. The Australian dollar is pretty good at the moment, so I ended up getting them about $1000 cheaper after shipping. Make sure you use an authorised dealer of the manufacturer due to warranty etc.

dealt with golfsmith in the past and they are great… just make sure you ring them and tell them to send std airmail instead of UPS and you will save big $$$ on shipping.

I priced up a set of Titleist 755 irons and a Vokey SM wedge from discountgolf. Including the $70 US shipping, it was $1087 AUD. Went to local pro shop, and they will do the 755 irons and the wedge and custom fitting for $1100. I also got a few pointers from the pro on what my grip was causing me to do, which I saw instant results from. I’m going for a lesson with him next week. Never got any advice from discountgolf! I’ve bought my driver, wedge and putter from the same place in the last 5 months. Go speak to the local pro, get their advice on stuff, spark up some conversation and then enjoy the flexibility of their prices. You also avoid problems if something goes wrong – send back to US or head to the local place for an inspection, quick repair or replacement. WELL worth sticking local if you ask me Mike

hi guys…i’ve just been shopping around, both golfdiscount and golfsmith…well i cant check their delivery fee….do i have to call em up n arrange it separately?
|
|
o nvm. i found it ^^;; wish u can edit post here… but got another question tho…..when u purchase from USA, do they charge u GST, or anyone got hit by custom tax etc. ???
|
|
Go to checkout, you don’t have to finalise the purchase so don’t worry, at the bottom of the list just put ‘Australia’ in the post code box and it will calculate the postage, I ordered from golfsmith before and worked it out.

did u have to pay any GST when your items came into AUS?? also whateva u brought, do u have full warranty of your product?
|
|
I bought a set of blades from the US (ebay.com) and was not charged an additional 10% for GST. Its best to ask the seller before you buy.

There is no duty nor GST payable on goods purchased overseas. Although I strongly support buying where you get the better deal it is wrong that Australian sellers are placed at an immediate 10% disadvantage as they must levy 10% GST if sold locally (and it means that goods would cost me more). Delivery costs can be horrendous on small orders completely wiping out any cost savings. Most U.S. suppliers will not use the postal service preferring the far more expensive Fedex or UPS couriers (able to track parcel to ensure it is delivered to the correct person). A further problem can arise with warranty. A warranty claim will mean you have to return the goods to their original supplier, so you will foot the horrendous delivery costs to send them back and then in all likelihood you will have to pay for delivery of the replacement items. (it is usual everywhere that the buyer pays freight on warranty claims). For example, you buy a set of irons overseas for say $600-00. It will cost you approximately $70-00 to have them shipped here. Something faulty and you send them back. Another $140-00 for return freight. Your new $600-00 irons which had a problem not of your making have now set you back $810-00 and any price advantage has well and truly gone up in smoke. This is an extreme case but I have seen it happen. I had a particular head crack on one occasion (cost US$139-00 which the supplier was more than willing to replace. Cost of postage (with tracking) to the U.S. for a 200 gram head, Au$38-00. Return freight almost US$40-00. Now my US$139-00 head has cost me about US$215-00. Unless you are spending in excess of $1000-00, freight will really eat into any price advantage and then you should hope there are no problems requiring return.

I think the issues is that the changes in our $ is not being reflected in the prices at the shop. Somewhere along the line someone is earning extra and I doubt its the guy running the shop. Some clubs are ridiculously cheap. Usually, the starter irons like Adams and Wilson. Adams would be a good example. A set of $500+ Adams irons here can be picked up for like <$300 with shipping ($169 at Rockbottom) and everything worked in. Some of the component stuff like Snake Eyes, ditto, <$300 for a set on ebay or off a website or $100 an iron at the local shop. I don’t know how or why such huge price differences exist, but they do. Somewhere along the distribution line someone is getting fat off our $ being so high. I doubt it is the small guy running a shop though. I think the taxes only kick in if your purchase is over $500AU, where golf equipment is concerned. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

HI 3riC, To check import duty and taxes check the customs website (I just put import duty into google and selected Australia). From memory if the goods are under $1000 and are not alcohol, firearms or tobacco there is no import duty or taxes payable. Al

Cost including shipping less than $1,000AUD, you should pay zip. No import duties exist on golf clubs and no GST under $1,000 total. http://www.customs.gov.au/s...

If I import one good said $600 it is under $1000 so no import tax. Then after few months I import another good for $600. Do I have to pay import tax as total is over $1000 ?

Bought a set of Bridgestone GC mids and a J33 wedge from Rockbottom. $420 delivered (within 3 days mind). Fully legit clubs, no problems at all. House of Golf quoted me $140 per club the day I ordered. Global Golf is another good one to try. Particularly the used club section. Look for Clubs in mint used condition, basically shop demos never been used. TM Superquad and Scotty Cameron Red X for $270 delivered from them.

I ordered a full set of Adams A2 Hybrid iron set, Adams RPM 3 Wood and a Adams/Tom Watson Lob all for $500 inclg delivery, from Rockbottomgolf. They are 100% real deal. I think thats a pretty good deal compared to what you pay retail in Australia. However, this is my first new set – not having fitting and all that just yet.

Here is a question? I am an Aussie that has lived in the USA for many years. As most of you will know, online golf equipment shopping is into the future there so to say compared to Australia. On a recent return to Australia and out of interest, I went into a Golf World store just to check it out to compare prices to back “home”, the range of equipment and things. I was astounded at the prices, the no “knowledge” service and when I asked about online buying, was told to join a loyalty system called Golf Tribe. I had a look at the website for this and all they sold was wine and beer? I went to a Drummond store and got bad service from some 18 year kid who had no idea. The Drummond website is much better though. I also visited a House of Golf store, got better service and their website is good as well. All up, I personally would not purchase from any of these retailers even if I was living in Australia. I would buy on-line as you get it much cheaper from reputable dealers. It astounds me that these retailers can survive but then again, many people do not know what mark-ups they are paying. Having trust in your local pro is another avenue I suppose but if he screws you, he will not get much business down the line. I am not advertising here but there is a place in the USA of which you can get fitted for free (not online) and any club/set is put together for you and delivered to your front door within 2 days (USA wide). That is service and sadly, Australian retailers are lacking in it at the moment. Maybe they will wake up soon and follow the lead. Just my thoughts….....

In the past few months i have purchased a “used” TM Burner for $260 AUD and a “used”TM Burner 15 deg fairway for $175 AUD from Global Golf, separately, (could have saved $30 or so shipping if i ordered both together). Both arrived in pristine condition in 4 or 5 days the 15deg had never been hit and the driver was virtually new with only the slightest marks on the sole. Last week i purchased an “Izzo” stand bag from Rockbottom for $116.00, half of which was shipping, which arrived in 5 working days. Couldn’t fault anything about these suppliers, their goods or service.

Limo- My local shop which is part of the Golfbox chain in WA has three clubfitters, two of which are club pro’s and a lovely bit of eye candy who happens to be a really nice young lady who plays off 9. Also I was told this morning that TM australia charge for warranty work on items that are bought os, this could be wrong so I would be interested to find out if it’s true. Patrick
