Putter question?

I’ve had my putter for 12 years now and its the only one I’ve ever had. It came with the first golf set I got when I was 14. I’ve since update the rest of my bag and am looking at a new putter. My current one is pretty much a blade. I’m looking for more consistency out of my putting (aren’t we all :) Would a mallet type putter help with this or is it about practice and confidence?

I used to use a Blade type putter (Ping Sedona) and move to a more conventional one. Ping Anser (G2i)

I tried the two ball and loved it from 10feet in, but struggled with it from further out than that. Now to be clear – I actually think the 2 balls help to improve a players putting stroke, so I am a big fan.

But I preferred the shape of the Answer (same as a Cameron – Newport).

I like the line on the back of them, and they way they setup. My putting improved substantially after the change.

only way to determine what putter is best for you is to hit as many as you can, and try and find one you feel comfortable with. If you are on good terms with your pro, see if he can get some in for you to demo on the practice green, as the putting surfaces at Drummongs, HOG etc are not indicative of the real deal!

Mind you, if your current putter is working well for you and you are happy… why bother changing… new is not always better :-)

from what i know, you’ll have to know what kind of putter suits you. the balanced type or slanted type.

balance the shaft on your finger just like if you were going to weigh it. if the face stays facing up to the sky, that’s the balanced face type. if it slants down, that’s the other type.

find out which one suits you. finally balance the putter to your swing. any PING dealer should be able to do it.

I have recently changed to a yes mallet putter, improved my putting heaps, i was lucky the pro at the local club had a great selection and the practice green for the club at his front door . I tried a couple of putters each time i was near the club untill i found the yes was for me.
