Another non-conforming Driver

The water gets murkier and muddier and more confusing for players out there….

“Chalk up another one to the growing list of products that have been sabotaged during the manufacturing process. Anyone in possession of a Cleveland Golf HiBore XL, specifically a 10.5-degree right-handed model is now potentially in violation of the equipment rules for Characteristic Time. The club was recently added to the nonconforming list of drivers by the United States Golf Association. It completes a foursome of products (Nike Sumo2, Callaway Big Bertha 460 13-HT and Cobra HS9 F, 9 degree) that have been discovered to comply beyond the rule limitations for CT. The Company stated that all other right handed lofts (7.5, 8.5, 9.5, 11.5, 16) and all left-handed HiBore XL drivers, as well as all other models, including the HiBore, HiBore XL Tour and W-Series HiBore XL (For women), have been tested and are determined to conform to USGA standards.”

Must be an expensive exercise as Cleveland in America are going to replace all of them with “CG” engraved heads FOC to customers. Wonder what they will do with all the heads overseas?

Sooner or later somebody is going to win a USGA sanctioned event with a club thats (retrospectively) found to be nonconforming (pardon my ignorance if this has already occurred.

What happens then? A case of “it was okay at the time to have what we now rule to be an unfair advantage”?

I would expect that unless they test/check all players clubs before the game starts its going to eventually happen
