Stand Bags - Why?

Just wondering why all the young deuches at my golf course use stand bags? It’s something i have noticed. These are the kids who are at the course ALL the time and think they r gunna turn pro, so they all seem to carry stand bags? Why not just get a pull buggy? I mean come on..

Reasons for me;
I also play on a particularly hilly course and find I spend a lot less enery carrying. I’m mid-30’s and have I’ve had a bad back in the past, although nothing too chronic. The big one for me is not dragging my buggy up hills, combined with the fact you tend to carry less crap – therefore you’re much lighter for the day.

Im with Dan, getting a stand bag was the best thing I did. Easy access to clubs, shortcuts around the course and I only carry a few balls and some tees. Light as!!!

I have my golf gear in my car 90% of the time…a stand bag takes up a lot less room than a cart bag and buggy. On weekends I normally use a pull buggy so I can have a seat while waiting.
down and out…did ya get that? |

Taking a stand bag on public transport is humiliating enough. When I sold my car there was no way in hell I was dragging the Bag Boy Buggy onto the train.

All the best players carry stand bags. At least we still look good when we hit a bad shot!

Im with the other, my regular playing partner and I both have stand bags and on a day when the couse is empty it can save 15 to 20 mins
yes, it is true I am an addict! |

I carry my clubs if I’m playing midweek. Field usually moves pretty well and there are only couple of hold ups. On weekends I use the staff bag and buggy. Load up the bag with food and drink. Guaranteed to be on the course for 6 hours so might as well make sure I’m fed watered and sitting while I’m waiting. I’ve got to agree that carrying my clubs makes the round quicker.

Found the stand bag to be easier than my old cart bag and buggy. Easy to carry on a hilly course, can take much more direct routes when I play ‘army golf’ :) and I’m less tired after a round. But in saying that, there are some comp days that I will push the pram around! Ahh, the versatility….. Cheers

All of the above – but mainly just lighter, easier for hills and way less space in the boot. Usually hire a buggy on wet days for obvious reasons.

Because it is quicker and saves loads of time. With a pull buggy I can’t go where I want. I can walk anywhere on land with a carry bag rather than have to go around things. Straight onto the green, mark ball, walk to back of green. Walking in direct lines off tees and the like is very convenient, and I can relax or prepare for my next shot whilst waiting for playing partners who have a pull buggy. And I don’t have to pull a pull buggy in the process. They use MORE energy than a stand bag on undulating courses. It is also very compact for travel.

Not having to clean a buggy especially after a wet round is a big plus. Carry bags just makes a round easier except for maybe on hot days and hilly courses.

Interesting comment. If the course is hilly, I find carrying a stand bag much easier and less tiresome than pushing/pulling a buggy, AND easier to traverse because the buggy becomes less mobile on a hilly course. You’ll lose more of your breath and be more tired after the round on a hilly course if you push/pull compared to carrying a good quality stand bag.

The reason I use a carry bag, i that on my home course there are alot of short cuts between bunkers that are too narrow for a buggy.

There was one particular stinking hot day where I though I would use the buggy.. It was so bloody fiddly in comparison I left the buggy at the pro shop as we went from the 4th green to the 5th tee.

I carry my clubs for all the reasons above as well as it keeps your back warm in winter. Oh yeah and when you carry a white and neon green Ogio bag you’ve got to be ready to run when the old codgers say what the hell is that ugly thing.
|
|
it is more convenient, but i find it more tiring having clubs on my shoulders the whole day as opposed to using a buggy
|
|
bahaahaa keeps your back warm? seriously? Buggys cost money, if not more than a stand bag. Save money carry less
|
|
That’s got to be the worst reason ever, but your heart was in the right place!

how hard is it trying to push/pull a buggy through rough? Farken Tuff I tells you. Hills? Especially if you arent rolling with the slope but along it? fast track to broke back city. Being not overly gifted, the rough is where I spend a lot of my day at golf and the stand bag makes for much easier point to point travel. I also second the scoring thing and expand that concept to feeding yourself as you walk. if i need to sit down, the ground seems as good as any buggy seat i reckon except for when its raining. If it is raining, having a sit while waiting is probably one of the last things on your mind

Try carrying a full size staff bag flying interstate or overseas it makes life very difficult but with the more compact stand bags makes things a bit easier. Buying a stand bag was the best thing i ever brought

Interesting comment…. note: my comment was about hot days AND hilly courses. The combination is the factor. A hilly course on a normal temp day is fine.

I guess my wife and I are a pair of ultimate douches. We only own stand bags. I’m not a fan of bending over excessively to pick up a weighted down bag from the ground. I am healthy and young enough where I don’t need a cart (unless it is a cart for two and I’ve been drinking).

Hell, where do you even buy a nice bag that does’t have a stand and isn’t some one ton leather pig and an ungodly amount? Or lets look at it like this? What are the clubs in your bag? Are they brand name? God, your a douche! Are you trying to go pro or something?

Stand bags for sure….easier to put in the car, light on the back, not huge and bulky….option to put on a buggy….! But if its too heavy for you or you have a bad back then id get a cart bag and pull buggy. cheers Brownboygolfer
