Stand bags - which one?

I've been thinking about getting myself a stand bag for a while now but have not really got around to it.

So I want to know what people think are the good stand bags out there.

One point, however, is that I will not spend $300+ on a Ping Hoofer, even thought it is supposed to be the best out there.

Any suggestions, excluding Hoofer, are welcome.

i tried out everything on the market when i selected mine and the 2 things that came out most imporatnt were the straps (comfort, support, adjustability, strength) and a putter well.

i skipped the putter well crieteria smile.gif and went for the Cleveland Superfly standbag as it had the best straps, excellent and solid mechanism and just enough pockets to be handy without looking ridiculous.

the side pcokets can be clipped in if you're using on a cart or conversely expanded right out with a centre zip on each for extra capacity. nice touch i thought...

i did try quite a few out and the best comfort was from the ceveland, although the newer taylormade standbag was only just out and was also excellent. i had already bought mine so...

i know there's a Hogan one as well with "suspension" in the straps but i think the price is over the range you suggested.

The Ohio is quite good...nice shoulder straps, and deep pockets...quite light...
TaylorMade is quite good...my fiancee has the Taylite, and its almost as good as the Ohio...
Other than that, possibly the Nike...but I hate the material of the bag...

I'm using a freebie at the moment, as a 'goodie' for participating in the Brunei Open, which came from China...quite good...pockets are a little bit small...but very light...

Hogan in the States don't make anymore standbags...not any that I could search in the major retailers...

Mw... biggrin.gif

Ive got a Hogan stand bag at the moment and its pretty good...

The Taylor Made ones are pretty good as with some of the Titleist ones...But nothing beats the Hoofer...

RV,

which Hogan bag have you got? Also, which Titleist have you heard are good?

Ive got one from the States...

I dont know the model name, but its got gel springy straps...

I use to have a Titleist stand bag before the Hogan and it wasnt too bad, I think its the Ohio...but really if you dont like the Hoofer go for the TM...

that's the Hogan i saw late last year at House of Golf!

I haven't seen one since though...the straps seemed to be a great ergonomic idea. do they work at absorbing some of the 'bouncing' and strain of the straps?

I use a Sun Mountain stand bag (ascent) and like it a lot.
The biggest problem i have found is the type of shoulder straps on stand bags. The ones with the backpack sort of harness straps require the user to dislocate a shoulder to get in and out of, well this user anyway. Might be a personal thing i have to deal with... not sure.
My other requirement would be a solid, reliable stand retraction mechanism. Nothing more annoying than legs that don't quite retract.

Sounds like thats the one!

How much was it dude? Do you remember the model name?

sorry RV, i only saw it twice and didn't note a model name. bugger.

Oddly enough the Hogan site no longer carries any info on that standbag i think they might have stopped in that segment.

what a pity too it seemed nice.

The price tag was upper $200's from memory, similar to Nike.

virtually no mention anywhere on the weba nymore of them.

Here's a cached shot from google with the cool stap name:

double Z-Flo Comfort sling design with Shock-Zorb cushioning technology ...

Hmm... thats alright Macleod, its probably on the bag somewhere but I cant find it...

I saw a very nice looking Maxfli A10 standbag today. Tossing up between that and the Titleist Ohio..

Hindo I've had a couple, a something I can't remember (yeah I know that's helpful) and a Sun Mountain Ascent which I would not recommend because I found the quality very poor.

Sorry to tell you I have a Hoofer 2 and would recommend it even if it is $300 bills

i currently use the Titlest Ohio and i think it is a great bag, v.stylish too!

Have tried the nike version, much lighter and flashier, but smaller all at the same time. Not much room for clubs, oh and another downfall is that the underside of the straps isn't as waterproof as the Titlest bag.

just a few thoughts... hope it helps.

I use a Nike 'Tour Lightweight'. I spent a lot of time looking around to find the best one for me. One of my most important criteria was the pocket layout. (Where I play, you need to carry a bit of stuff: bug spray, rain jacket, drinks, lots of cash to pay my opposition). Many of the bags I looked at didn't have enough pockets, or they were poorly designed. I think my Nike bag has got 9 or so pockets, all of them practical and useful. I can access nearly every pocket without taking the bag off. As well as all that, it has the Izzo adjustable dual strap system, putter well etc. The only other one I considered was last years model Callaway Daytripper, but it didn't quite match up. I think I paid around $240 for it 6 months ago. I love it so much I sold my old staff bag and push buggy.
That's my 2 cents worth...

Thanks for the replys guys.

I've decided to go with a Ping Hoofer 3 and should have it in a couple of weeks.

You won't regret your purchase. Forget the rest, go with the best.

Obviously it was my powerful argument that persuaded you smile.gif

Without question.

Do I detect a note of sarcasm, I thought that was restricted to the Favourite Courses Forum tongue.gif

I don’t know if the X36 and X37 are available yet in Aus, but I saw both models over the Christmas break, and with the price comparison, I still would have to say that the Ohio is a much better bag to get. Both versions of the X didn’t have the same finish as the Ohio, and felt like it was made out of cheap materials…but that’s just me. biggrin.gif
The Ohio is all class, its such a good bag that I didn’t want to use it anymore in fear of damaging it…go figure… smile.gif

Me, sarcastic, never. It must just be the words on the screen.

I have a Precept ( 2002 model) its worth $220 but i go tit 4 my Bday @ 123 from GolfWorks?! it has an adjustable weight ( removable side pockets) but the stand wears out quick ( 2-3 months) otherwise great bag.

picked myself up a shark 8.5" tiburon today for $109. Very nice and tidy bag for the price. Check em out they have em on special at golfworks.com for $106. I was disgusted when i had a look at a ping standy for $280 and it didnt have anywhere near the features of my tiburon. It actually didnt even have the full length dividers my bag has. U go figure but im not paying nearly 3times as much for 4letters stamped on the outside.

Ping has an annoying habit of not putting full-length dividers in some of their stand bags...I don't know why this is... :?

but to be fair, pings would most probably be lighter, and in time to come, will outlast any of the other 100-180 bags...given the same workout of coz...

but hey...whateva tickles ur fancy I guess...coz I'm not going to pay more than 220 for a stand bag... Imagine an Oakley standbag for 350 smackers... :x

btw, the titleist X38 has also been released... smile.gif
