Hi,

I'm thinking about getting a hyrbid to replace my 3-iron/4-iron off the fairways.

Can anyone recommend a specific model?

I've had a look around and the prices seem to vary - so please let me know what you think is a nice one.

I'm looking at the Adams Idea A2 OS and standard, and also the Mizuno Fli-HI one looks decent..

Your thoughts...

I had a hit of a Srixon AD hybrid on the weekend, it was the best one I have tried, very very easy to hit from rough, fway bunker and fairway.

Ok i will check them out.

RBG are doing Nickent Genex 3DX's for $69.99USD, is this a good deal? Apparently these were used heaps on the pro tour at some stage.

Snake Eyes

For further information, send me a PM?

I got one of the original Taylor Made Mid rescues from the us for $66 - I have really enjoyed it - however - never hit any others...

The Nickents are extensively used on the Nationwide tour.

Yeh i have seen that deal for around $66 for the TM Rescue Mid - they seem ok - they are TM so i'm sure they are quality.

Are hybrids generally easy to hit straight?

Ping Rapture.

Sonartec MD.

do you miss right or left?

If you miss right, the hook machine TM Rescues are a good fit.

I carry a Taylormade 16deg...just open the face to make the ball go the other way tongue.gif

The Ben Hogan hybrids are easy to hit and relatively cheap - I think they are currently on special at either Drummonds or Powergolf in Sydney.

Nah...change the weights smile.gif

down and out…did ya get that?

There are a few threads around comparing woods / irons and hybrids - advantages of each, re ease of hitting, ball flight - usability etc... do a search on hybrid by post - you will see some good responses that will help.

In general hybrids have a shorter shaft that the equiv iron or wood, making them a little easier to hit. They have a larger sole that the irons, making them a little easier to get through rough etc...

As far as hitting straight is concerned, I would say yes. IMHO I hit my new hybrid straighter than either my long irons or 3 wood. But it is also weather or not it is the arrow or the indian...

Do a few searches - plenty of good info from people with bigger brains than mine.

Hi,

In my opinion (and as a senior golfer who have a lower handicap)

If you are low handicapper (or someone who hook a lot - not necessary low handicapper)
Mizuno CLK
Sonartec MD
Ben Hogan Hybird
TaylorMade Mid Rescue TP

If you are mid handicapper (or someone who perfer a more natural bias)
Nickent Ironwood
Callaway Fusion
Callaway X
Titleist 585H
Cleveland Halo/HiBore

If you are high handicapper who like the ball to go up in the air consistently (or fighting a slice)
Nickent Utility
Callaway Heaven Wood
TM R7 Draw
Nike CPR series
TM Rescue Mid
TourEdge Bazooka

Out of these bunch I will pick:

Sonartec MD
Nickent Ironwood
TourEdge Bazooka

I'm thinking about grabbing one also. Seems that all the reviews that i have read have been pretty positive on most brands available.
For me, I've had a round with a Cobra Baffler which I couldn't hit for the life of me.
My local pro shop has a Ping G5 which I have had a couple of swings with and feels pretty good. Any thoughts on that one?? Either way, I'll probably take it out for a bash this Saturday.

Are you aware of any decent aussie retailers/eTailers who have some good deals on hybrids?

Also, what's the deal with these "The Perfect Club" hybrids?

They seem to be dirt cheap - but has anyone heard anything about their performance?

I picked up one of the Nickent Genex 3DX's (17) from RBG and have nothing but good things to say about it.
Also have a couple of Nike CPR Hybrids and certainly prefer the Nickent over those.

tried the taylor rescues and didn't realise i could hook a ball so much. tried hitting a fade with it and the result was the same, just a little less severe.

tried the nike slingshot and absolutely love it. replaced my 3 iron and i don't think i'll ever go back.

Had the original AD Hybrid...was a beaut

got the new hybrid from srixon, not much difference. probably doesn't look as good at address but still a good stick...

hit it off the deck as a better option to 3 wood, and soo much better than carrying a 2 iron...

sigs are back – YAY

My 16 degree ad hybrid goes in between my 3 and 5 wood. So i guess that's a 4 wood. wink.gif

woohoo my birthday today!! 14 y/o

I currently play a TM rescue mid and it certainly has a tendancy to go right (I'm a lefty).

I am looking to change, and have noticed a BH CFT hybrid on ebay, with a reg #3 shaft.

Can anyone give some feedback on this shaft, as I often read on these boards that shaft flex descriptions are very subjective.

I currently have the Reax 60 stiff mid tip in my driver (which I really like) and a NV stiff in my 3 wood (which feels too stiff). Swing speed with driver is about 95 -100 mph.

Are their any recommendations for an alternative shaft, or perhaps a clubfitter in the Brisbane / Gold Coast area that you would trust to steer me in the right direction.

Cheers

Just dropped a TM Rescue Mid out of my bag for another Srixon AD Hybrid. The Srixon's are very easy to hit and probably one of the most consistent clubs in my bag.

How does it go in between your 3 and 5 wood?

Club loft? Club Length? Distance?

Beware of cheap imitations - Especially from the US

Looking at Rockbottom's site, there's a couple of real bargains in there...

Firstly, the Cleveland LDI - if you can hit a driving iron, it's a steal at US$29,

And the Precept ECU utility - I've got one and they're very underrated, and for US$39 you couldn't go far wrong with that one.
